/g/, i need advice from anyone that has experience with this. One of my drives (2tb of porn) is dying. It made a weird noise and now it takes forever to open folders (10-15 minutes). About half of the files in a folder can be opened without problem, but the other half also take 10-15 minutes. I used Seatools to check it out but it stopped midway.
Im going to buy an 8tb drive tomorrow. What is the best way to transfer all the files in a safe way to the new drive? Should i literally just copy and paste one folder at a time? Should i use some software?
Im scared i going to brick it once and for all if i push it too much.
It's okay if the drive dies. Just restore from backup.
Ddrescue to an identical drive if its important

Thanks, reading into it. How "identical" does it need to be? Exactly the same manufacturer and model-number? Or just size? What if the second drive is larger?

Hopefully your drive dies and you realize you can live without porn.

What are you, gay?

Well fucking buy a new drive and clone it.
If it bricks mid-clone, well, you fucked up.

Go one file at a time from most important to least
Hopefully it's been defragmented, then you won't have tons of seeking

If second drive is larger, it will be OK, you'll just have to grow the partition to fill the drive so will add a second step.
