Who started the slit-screen meme /g/?
I tried out a game on a mates iPad and I creamed myself over the extra vertical vision
I'm looking at my monitor right now wishing it was taller so I can play games with normal vision rather than sliteyes
Why do games cut out vertical gameplay so we have to play games with sliteye vision?
Is it cheaper to make games in sliteyed vision?

Blame the introduction to wide film formats

How come cinemas only increased the width of their screens?
Why didn't they vertically increase their screen size as well?
If I remember correctly humans see the world in roughly 3:2 aspect ratio, so how come we don't we make movies like normal people's vision, rather than people with eyes half closed

Probably because for films expanding upwards would just give you more of the ground / sky whereas expanding horizontal gives you more useful space to work with.

Well, because then the movies wouldn't do well in the Asian markets
/sarcasm

I'm sure part of it has to do with things like needing more film because of the increased image size and shit like that. Or otherwise cost. Or I don't know.

Movies aren't even 16:9. They're some even wider aspect ratio. I don't know why we even use 16:9. The movie argument isn't applicable.

One reason could be that cinema screens are easier to build wider than taller.
