If your computer comes with this port, it's time to upgrade

If your computer comes with this port, it's time to upgrade that old chunk of shit you have sitting on your desk. it's been deprecated ages ago, grandpa, and you should get something that has at least a DVI instead. Even DVI can't drive high=pixel-count displays anymore so you're better off with DP and/or HDMI.

But seriously, VGA is as useless as tits on a bull today. Nothing made recently comes with that port and it can't even handle 4K displays.

So, my dear poorfag or grandpa, upgrade.

My laptop doesn't have that, but if I worked in a corporate office or at a school I'd most likely have to use one with a VGA port. Do you know how expensive it would be for companies to change out every single projector to HDMI?

Why would you even get upset about other people using this? VGA can support up to 1400p as well

It is useful if, like me, one of your old monitors that you still use requires it. Too cheap to buy a new monitor, so I use DP, DVI and VGA all at once for different monitors. Same is true for older projectors that will likely be around for at least another 10 years.

Using adapters is not always possible. There isn't always room for one, and they tend to be difficult to install due to being cheaply built; assuming they fit at all. The one I'm using doesn't screw in on both sides because it's shit, and is too small to screw in fully on the side that does. A larger one wouldn't fit in space available.

VGA ports are also smaller than DVI, so you can fit more ports of a different type in the same space, which is important on laptops.

VGA port is essentially the ISA slot of the modern era: old, out dated, ubiquitous, and just won't die.

It really won't go peacefully into the night until the entire industry settled on a new port. That means they will have to settle on a new standard and stop dicking around with patents and other money grab bullshit.

what do you need the VGA port, genius. pls do tell us. I tend to agree that VGA is pointless today and that the space on mobo is better served with an extra DP/HDMP or even an extra USB3 port.

pic related... this port is even more useless that even the VGA port! no one even makes mice with that antiquated port anymore. keyboards too.
>>
>>58489228
There's still new keyboards that uses it because it still has advantages over USB. Mice aren't however, but that's why most computers with PS/2-ports have a combined one instead of two.

No, the fonts are shit because theres too many pixels being shoved into a 14" display.

I hate widescreen because it worthless for text. I can see less of my code, I can see less text article, I can see less 4chan, you get the idea. Text that wraps across the whole screen is uncomfortable to read, making about half the screen useless.

most things does not have a 4k display.
Hardware ports should not be changed very often and you need a very long overlap before removing the old one.
People who develop new ports are usually idiots who doesn't know how to test stuff and this is why we get so bad ports.
hdmi is a fucking joke.
The protocol is terrible, the ports are way too big and it doesn't provide power.
I haven't looked at the DP protocol, but the mini DP seems to be acceptable in terms of size.
But usb-c seems to be fast enough to be used for displays and it is smaller and more universal.
But usb-c is fairly new, so making this the new standard will also take time.

Developing these standards should be done in labs, not through consumer electronics.
Our university has fairly new equipment, but their projectors only accept vga, hdmi and display port.
It means that most people can plugin the projector, but some (mostly mac users) have to use dongles.
And I would rather use an old port and a "low" resolution if it means I do not have to use a fucking dongle like those pleb mac users.
>>

>the ports are way too big
>HDMI

I've never even heard of an HDMI port or plug breaking. These tiny ports are both more difficult to plug in properly (except reversible ones) without visibility of the port, and are also more vulnerable to damage. There is such a thing as being too small, just as there is being too large. DVI is too large, but HDMI is not.

Personally, I don't see the point of supplying power over a display cable. Powering displays off the computer is a bad idea for anyone using more than one with a UPS.

>>
>>58505226
Aren't there cables with DVI in one end and DisplayPort in the other?
>>
>>58512815
That won't help his issue at all. He doesn't need DVI, he needs a DVI port that also supports VGA, which is basically nonexistent now.
>>
>>58488568
DVI is more outdated than VGA.

Having a native VGA port is pretty nice, since it allows you to connect to every legacy device out there. And business don't throw out perfectly functioning projectors and similar just because there's a newer model out. They're in the business of making money, not posting desktop threads on /g/.

The Apple Solution is actually pretty good here though: Displayport can pretend to be VGA, so you only need a passive converter. This is good, because now I can have a bunch of dongles and connect to VGA, DVI-ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP or whatever bullshit they came up with before HDMI and DP fixed that mess, HDMI and DP.

So VGA is actually better than DVI. If you see that blue connector, you know it will work. You have no such guarantee with a white connector, you just have to hope it's the one that you have a connector for.

Fuck DVI. Fuck it right in the pussy.

>>58512815
Yes, but... why bother? You have DP on your end, and the other end is guaranteed to have VGA. So why bother with DVI-dongles? You can get them, and DP lets you get away with passive converters because it's a good enterprise standard, but... Why would you want one, when VGA gets you the same thing?
>>
>>58488970
That depends entirely on what type of DVI it is.
Like, I get that this is a bait thread, but every single fucking time someone posts anything in defense of DVI, the ghost of fucking Harambe rustles my Jimmies.
