I know this is kind of a weird request but y'all know about your audio equipment (or at least pretend to) so show me.
Halp someone pls I need a preamp that has
1. Digital Input (so it can act as a DAC)
2. Volume Control
3. XLR output
And not like $300 or something

I have a Schiit Fulla 2, which I could use, but it doesn't have an SPDIF input. I'd really like to have an all-in-one unit that can output to some powered monitors.

thanks for your help

Good luck finding XLR for $300
I would tell you about the Emotiva pro dac, but it's $500

How's the emotiva XLD-1? I wouldn't mind picking one up used
>>

I remember reading enough mediocre reviews to stay away from it(for me.) I would consider buying any of their other gear tho.

Unrelated but hey OP, how's the Fulla 2? I was just thinking of getting one recently since my old amp/dac died.
Seems like a good start since it can do dac and amp separately, so also good for future upgrades. I've got powered monitors and headphones that don't require too much power so I think it'd work out for me.

It's great. Powers my HE-400i headphones pretty well, which are notoriously difficult to drive. It's a great little all-in-one unit.

Got any fancier equipment to compare it to, or any other complaints or small issues (besides no SPDIF)?
Cool that it can power planar magnetics though.

I had a micca origen+ while I was waiting for the Fulla. Fulla works much better, and has better build quality. I like Schiit as a company.

I suppose not, but definitely being orthodynamic makes a difference

Nothing much that can be tied into how how it sounds and absolutely nothing can be generalized about the difficulty of driving it. Driver type is one of those stats that is cool to know but you really can't say anything what it affects in the headphone or a loudspeaker for that matter. You never need to know it.

Nice, thanks. Convinced me to get mine fairly soon then.

What kind of digital input? This has a 1/4" TRS input and XLR output:

Dacmagic plus?

Probably breaks your budget though.

Love mine

Look up a suitable Mackie mixer.

I'm a huge fag that wants to use an ARM SBC with terrible onboard sound as my audio workstation (MIDI, tracker modules, etc.). What's a good USB2 DAC for basic 2.1 or headphones?
