Pray to Guido every night before bed, repeat the Zen of Python in public until you pass out, print your C code, burn it, delete the files, then on the night of a blue moon, stand outside in a field, and go learn rust or haskell instead

Python is a massive tool chest filled with shortcuts and convenience. It's built with C, and the C shows through in some of the older modules.
Pick a project you want to work on, one where you can think of how you'd do it in C, but which you think would be a pain in the ass to do. Now use http://learnxinyminutes/ and the official documentation to code it in python instead of C. It's the same logic, but 10 times faster.
Welcome to the family.

So I hear this Zed guy said he thinks Python 3 is terrible for beginners and then the whole community sperged out. Am just getting into the language myself again for the first time in years after only skimming it prior to 2.7. What should I do/expect?
