so this is my dad's PC. is it worth upgrading any parts or should we just go for a new setup?
it is roughly 10 years old, I'd say more. we upgraded the graphics a few years back.
Why would you need to upgrade this? That Q6600 is still plenty powerful.

1) SSD
2) more 2GB sticks, buy used, if you have empty ram slots.

my brother complains about CS GO not going smooth enough lol

What is it used for?
Looks more than powerful enough for a dad machine to email & surf trump porn.
Do you have any clue how to lean & clean the install? Trim out all the microsoft bullshit that sucks the performance out of it so you can use it for what you want to do?

Get a better graphics card then. 3GB GTX 1060 or 4GB RC470.

Tell your brother to buy his own fucking computer. Then kill himself.
Sounds like your family is degrading the gene pool. Probably all of you should kill yourselves.

it's just my brother that's stupid, he spends the whole day in front of the pc but has no idea whatsoever about computers
Throw in a 1060 or rx480 and you may have yourself a halfway decent gaming rig
Don't listen to the memers. Don't go any higher than a 1050 or RX460 on that it's plenty for casual shit like cs:go. Add an extra 4GB ram and maybe a 120gb sad and it'll last another 5 years of casual use.

Q6600 is more than enough for smooth CS GO usage. Check your settings.

Get a new graphics card and probably a better PSU to support it, but other than that its perfectly fine for a dadbox and general family PC.
A GTX 1050 or TI will be plenty, don't go spending too much money on anything higher as CS:GO will run fine on them.

A 1050ti is 3/4 the cost of the 1060. Just get the cheapest 3gig 1060.
