eventually you'll replace every single part with one that's actually good.

as for the glasses, i fly fatshark dominator v2. it's great, except the battery is tiny and VRX module is expensive for what it is.
get a standalone VRX and a big 2-cell li-pol and you're good.

Got an s7 and generic $20 goggles.

With extra battery packs, motor upgrade and fin pack less than $100 to start. Not a bad new hobby.

Going to have to upgrade camera for it if im going to fpv, I know. Low end cams lag but this is my first quad and its more for crashing and pictures.

My thinking is anyone into quads will have a pile of parts. Parts that can be used on an airship that are too worn for the copters anymore.

An indoor arena with ladders and chairs covered in blankets to act as mountain ranges/cover. Maybe a fan or two to create a "jet stream" through the battlefield. Fog machine for the ground level to hide in.

Operators in a seperate room. Camera veiw only with additional spotter cameras mounted in the terrain. Run by other crew making team work and communication key to victory.

A slow ballet of death to counter ballance the intensity of racing.
Could be good filler for competions.

All the most expensive parts can be swapped from your racing rig. Not much of a need for gyros on a airship so control circuits would be simple compared to quads.

I know it sounds nuts but I got a big garrage and even bigger dreams.

I use Dominator V3s with the laforge v2 diversity receiver. best setup you can get for goggles. also ditch that radio and get a Taranis you will thank your self later.

You won't get 40 minutes out of a quad.
But that's okay - as a beginner, there is no way you're going to be able to keep a quad in the air for 40 minutes. If you really want to rack up flight time, you may want to consider getting a drone sim.


If you really want long flight times, you are basically stuck flying fixed wing. The good news is that fixed wing is cheaper, has all around higher performance, and is just better in every possible way.

The bad news is that it is more challenging to fly fixed wing.

40 minutes means big slow moving props. building it yourself you should expect to spend thousands of dollars.

Not flying anything yet.
I've been torn between picking up an Inductrix, going the Tiny Whoop route, or just building something in the ~100-150mm range.

Really the main thing stopping me is the cost of goggles. It seems kinda silly to spend $300 on such a niche piece of equipment.

It's just one particular take on a skew planar antenna, which is the most commonly used type nowadays.
