The manufacturing can't keep up with the demand, same going on with SSD.

Why doesn't somebody open up some new factories then? It's not as if ram is some kind of precious natural resource that there's only a finite amount of in the world. And why is all ram production done by chinks anyway? Isn't it a 100% automated process that could be done anywhere with minimal labor costs?

Because its not that simple.

But it is build from natural resources that are scarce when compared to the needs of the entire population. No matter how much there is of this resource, it belongs to the set of scarce resources that are allocated on each single task to produce X product according to supply and demand.

Probably because the world price is way cheaper than the domestic one.
It is vital to understand that its easier and more efficient to import certain things from other countries, which is whats going on in this case.

In other words. There's a 'lack' of supply. But this doesn't necessarily mean that there's a scarcity of resources. There's a difference between scarcity and shortages. A shortage is caused by price, such as price regulations.

In this case, the high demand of the product is demanding the market to increase the price as to allocate more of this ''natural'' resource onto this particular task. Since prices are what run our society and what dictate whats made and whats not, this is a clear indication that more work has to be put onto this as to supply the high demand which, in turn, will decrease the prices in a given time.

As to why they can't make new factories, that entirely depends on how much return they can expect from such an operation. Its complicated stuff. Perhaps not even needed.
