Why did you buy such a low end psu?
>>
Go get your free month of Amazon prime and fuck off

>>
>>58422874
From what I've read, 450w is more than enough for an i5 6500 and RX 480. I'm not planning on over clocking. Plus It's the only modular PSU in that price range so there's that
>>
>>58422900
But I do have prime anon. But for some reason, Amazon will not ship the rest of my parts until next week.
>>
>>58422922
I do hope everything works out, but down the line it may get a bit flaky. Good luck with the build.

That's not how psu ratings work. A 450w 80 bronze unit does not give only 80% of 450w, it does the opposite. It uses an extra 20% to hit the 450w which means it's pulling ~550w from the wall at full load.
>>
>>58422849
>be adult
>living alone
>self sufficient for years
>still feel exactly like this

I can't be the only one
>>
>>58425369
You can run an over-volted R9 FuryX and a 6 core intel CPU at 4.4GHz and draw under 600w at full stress load.

Power draw is going DOWN, not up. Future parts will use LESS power, not more.

There is simply NO reason to go over 600w for a single GPU setup at this point, it's just wasted money.

Further, the majority of the time your computer is being used, you're web browsing, watching movies, or leaving it idle, at these load levels a 1000w+ PSU is going to have garbage efficiency and will draw MORE power at idle than if you had a 600w PSU.

Why would you subjugate yourself to 50w+ more power draw at idle because some day you MIGHT want another GPU, but most likely it will just sit and never be used anyway, and you paid money for a bigger PSU for no reason what-so ever AND you end up using more power in the long run because it has worse efficiency than a smaller PSU would.

tldr, get a 600w PSU.
>>
>>58425278
i5 6500 and rx 480 will not draw more than 350 stop talking shit
>>
>>58425460
power draw shoots up rapidly if you OC. worth having a hefty amount of overhead if it's something you intend to do.

but otherwise you are correct.
>>
>>58425477
yea have fun with random shut downs while playing or even worse getting your system fried
>>
>>58425369
>>58425488
As stated earlier, I don't intend on overclocking
>>
>>58425488
Only if you're shooting for retarded levels of OCing,

The 6 core CPU I have is 140wTDP, overclocked from 3.3Ghz to 4.4GHz makes it draw at most ~220w.

Even over-volted the R9-FuryX struggles to bring power draw over 550w.

>>
>>58425761
yeah but that doesn't mean you want your peak load level to only be 50% of your PSU load.

Ideally you want your average gaming load to be ~50% of your PSUs load.

My average gaming load is ~280-320w, my peak power draw is ~500w.

So should I get a 1000w PSU, or a 650w PSU?
>>
>>58425751
What the fuck are you even talking about
>>
>>58425769
if that's true you can get the shipping costs refunded, or if you didn't pay for shipping you can usually get $10-20 credit with amazon.

>>
>>58425414
You're not wrong, but I think he was referring to the fact that generally PSUs are more efficient at providing that load of X watts if not pushed to their absolute max wattage or near it. Plus the fact that generally speaking, PSUs with higher watt ratings are typically built to a higher standard than lower tier ones and thus inherently more often achieve greater 80 plus ratings.

tl;dr you're not wrong but I think he was making a different point
>>
>>58425501
If your PC is randomly shutting down like that it is NOT:
>RX480 drawing too much power
and is LIKELY:
>Shit PSU that's actually way lower rated
>Old PSU that's just flaky
>Some crazy overclock you're not telling us about
>Something else in your PC

If you're running a PSU that is truly rated for 600W and pretty much any current/modern-ish CPU other than maybe a 9590 and a single 480 and have a typical system, the actual power draw factor on paper is NOT the problem. Something is not right.

I'm making an i5 6500 / RX 480 build, I bought this PSU, it's good enough right?

This supply was cheaper than 600w supplies and has lasted me 5 years so far. I have no complaints.

A good PSU will last you ten years.

A PSU will be most efficient at 50% of it's maximum load, so always buy a more powerful PSU than you need. That way, you save money over the decade you'll use it.

A good PSU should have a 10 year warranty, so you know you won't have to buy another one for another decade.

A more powerful PSU than your current needs also gives you ability to upgrade in the future. Who knows what you're requirements will be from now and into 2027.

Your new PSU should have been opened up and recieved good scores by professional PSU review sites like jonnyguru and others

The fan bearings should be rated for 10+ years of continuous use.

The capacitors should be 100% Japanese, so they won't degrade prematurely and be rated to last within spec for 10+ years.

Some reading material on the latter point:
http://www.rubycon.co.jp/en/products/alumi/pdf/Life.pdf
http://www.johansondielectrics.com/ceramic-capacitor-aging-made-simple#.Um_e0fmkr9k

With all this in mind, there is only a few to choose from. One of those is the EVGA G3 1000W.

You deserve to lose every penny you shell out for overpriced gamer garbage. 10 year old servers cost $40 and have two (2) or more high end CPUs and a shit ton of ECC RAM.

You do NOT want your maximum load to be 50% of your PSU load, that's a total waste.

>You do NOT want your maximum load to be 50% of your PSU load, that's a total waste.

Jokes on you, I run my machine on maximum load 24/7.
>>
>>58441149
If that's true you probably shouldnt be running a consumer PSU anyway and should be using redundant server PSUs or similar setup.
>>
>>58426293

What is enough amps on a 12v anyway? I haven´t found a clear answer to this anywhere.
>>
>>58441537
A * V = W

so a 500w PSU should have at least 450w on the 12V rail, and preferable closer to 500w, the closer the 12V rail is to the rated wattage, the more likely you're dealing with a high quality unit.

So for a 500w PSU you would want to see a single 12V rail have anywhere from 37-42 amps.

>>
>>58441646
Yeah that's the sign of a garbage unit, unless it has multiple 12V rails.

2 12v rails at 25A isn't terrible if the company who designed it isnt a garbage company.

Titanium rated though, so it's 90%+ efficient at least.

And it's only rated at 600w, so it's not exaggerating too badly.

It claims to have multiple rails and that maximum power can be delivered on a single +12v rail if needed
>>
>>58442977
That's not TOO bad, most single components wont use more than 300w at a time.
>>
>>58442366
They do that on purpose if you get free or less then best shipping. Amazon gets money from shipping costs you know.
>>
>>58443378
If you get amazon prime you dont have these issues.

2 day shipping is free and shit always shows up in 1-2 days.

Same day shipping is $6.

My 7700k won't show up till after the weekend I think I got every other part though..
