Opinions on non-root ad blockers for Android?
Adguard
Netguard
Dns66
AdClear
Block This
Right now I have Adguard installed, with pretty much the default settings. I know the reported battery stats are greatly skewed, but it still seems like it wrecks my battery. Ideally I'd just like an app that I can use to block ads in specific apps only.
Suggestions?
Firefox with noscript and ublock origin. Yes, on android.
I use DNS66. Virtually zero battery usage. I don't know about the others but I guess they too work by setting up a local VPN. DNS66 is also open source which is a plus.

This.
ublock works surprisingly well on mobile

I'd do this for sure if it wasn't for all the Chrome sync features.

It's more of an annoyance thing than a privacy thing for me. Mobile ads are cancer even compared to desktop ads. I've made peace with the fact that my data is a commodity that is bought and sold every day.

Currently running NetGuard with a hosts file, but I'm having some issues with it fucking up some downloads with my SMS media. DNS66 any better?
>>58421812
Another one to consider. I haven't used it but I've heard it is really good.

Can you set it to only work with specific apps?
>>58421918
the likes of adguard and such do the same method
the likes of adaway (and other root methods) don't set up a vpn and just use hosts file
>>58422440
You can whitelist apps
>>58421865
This
>>58421812
If you have root access you don't need any applications, just use the hosts file in /system/etc/
If you don't have root access, use DNS66

>NetGuard
developer is a filthy jew fucking you in the ass with ads, don't use NetGuard.
>>58422788
Is he still fucking users in the ass is you download NetGuard from GitHub or F-Droid?
>>58422788
>>58423167
What, how?
>>58423167
The one from GitHub has ads.
Do people just use other stuff because Adguard isn't free? It seems like by far the best app.
>>58423535
Is the F-Droid one without ads then?
>>58421865
Firefox is great but it drains batteries mane
I heard some app called blockada, the website was blockada.org, it seems to use the ublock lists. Is it any good? It doesn't require root
>>58425282
My bad, blokada, and site is blokada.org
>>58425309
Looks interesting, but I've never heard of them and it doesn't look open source.

They're shit. AdAway or bust.
>>58427135
I'd love to use it, but no root here.
I've had good results from Adguard, the only real ``problem'' is that it's subscription-based but it's only like 7 bux a year
>>58427167
Yeah I got a 2x lifetime using Russian Rupies trick for like $5 so I'm good there.
android n00b that's been using DNS66 for a few days now, works breddy gud so far, even with Fi
Feels good to not be a phoneplebe

>>58427306
honestly considering reporting this to the fbi
>non-root
>>58427306
What the fuck.
>>58427476
Why?
It's the best protection against screenread walware
Netguard (f-droid) works well but I've since switched to pi-hole for blocking ads across all devices.
I guess the root hostfile way would be good for when you have to use mobile data but it's not a massive issue for me.
DNS66 for lyfe my brother.
>Free as in freedom
>Best interface
>Easy to add custom filters
>Low battery usage
>Can use either domain filtering/DNS filtering/both for maximum compatibility with different networks.
I uninstalled Adguard. No regrets.
