Is this shit good for notes and homework? I'm a math student looking to go paperless. I have it sitting on my desk but have yet to open it as I sort of did an impulse buy. Fill me in /g/
are you fucking retarded?

Sell it and buy any $400 laptop.
It's pretty good for notes and only concern might be a lack of storage and how bad it is on your lap. /G/ will probably tell you to get a touchscreen Thinkpad. I could recommend you get a plastic lapdesk though. They're super cheap and well making working without a table way more comfy.

You'll get annoyed by that shitty keyboard and pointing device.
A mid-tier or higher laptop would be far more convenient.

Fellow math student here.
One friend uses a 10 inch Samsung tablet and it works fine for him. I believe the experience would be quite similar with the surface.
I personally write markdown + mathjax live in class in Emacs (and a lot custom bindings I added to structure theorems and proofs) and it works for me.
My handwritting is shit, so for me being able to produce high quality documents quickly on class is really helpful. It took me a while to get used to it, but now about 90% as fast as a regular paper writer.
I use MultiMarkdown as my processor btw.

OP here
Okay sounds good. I thought about trying vim/latex but I have read that it's harder to retain info that's not written by hand (although latex is beautiful). I'm sure it's different for everyone though.
don't go paperless
paper is fucking incredible

This.
If you do maths a lot, the writing muscle memory coming from writing equations helps to remember a lot, comparing to say using mathjax or latex

They look incredible if you don't plan on playing any games and are mainly using it for taking notes. People have got them at my uni, they're expensive though.
