Are the fins fouling the VRAM? I thought you meant it was just the contact plate and the retention plate.

If you just have a problem with the fins you can find low profile heatsinks for those two chips

Use a copper shim. Amazon has them. You'll need double the thermal paste. I don't know if your screws will be the right length after install. Accelero doesn't do extensive compatibility testing. A lot of times their models cover the reference designs only.
