I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Then either will work provided the old system is no longer in use.
Btw, after an immediate install the new system is not activated automatically, you need to run the troubleshooter in the new control panel activation settings and choose "I changed hardware on this device recently".
