OpenPilot is about to become GNU.
So the FSF is looking for different hardware to run the software on.

Donating cars is a common charity thing. There's a lot of people just looking to get rid of the damn things, they're a pain to sell, and you get a tax writeoff. The organization gets scrap value thats a lot more than what they get form most cash donations.

It's a scam. They take it, sell it to a scrapyard and pocket the money. They tell you it's "a tax write-off" but what they don't tell you is that you're only going to see ~15 cents on the dollar.
