Red pill me on this issue /g/. Why are several 1080p sources circulating the web just crap compared to 720p sources in terms of FPS? While their resolution looks fine on a still picture they feel like being 15FPS instead of 25FPS in frame succession in actual playback, when the source properties clearly state 25.

Is there a technical issue with most HDTV downlinks nowadays that makes them crap out shitty FPS results?

That issue is not there at all on 720p, and 1080p WEB-DLs. Those play almost always very smoothly.
>>
are you sure you aren't just dropping frames because your computer isn't powerful enough to play the 1080p files? have you tried downlinking some more ram?

still pictures look fine, for sure?
If not that would be a bitrate issue. Usually 2000kbps at 720p will be better than 2000kbps at 1080p
when you go higher bitrate there's a point where they look identical and then a point where higher resolution looks better

as far as your frame rates it's either dropped frames or copied frames too, being an issue with tvs

usually to get that higher meme resolution from shitty ass TV you're going to get the same picture twice for 30fps, so you're really only getting 15fps

Nah, it's a i7-4790K with an R9 290. It doesn't drop frames on 1080p. Pic very related.

I think it's purely a source issue, on the downstream file itself. There are several HDTV sources of 1080p found on torrents; they often look fine on a paused picture, but the sequence of frames is just shit, it feels like 15FPS and even with some hiccups here and there.

And the playback/decoding itself has zero dropped frames or any issues. See above post about it. Besides, WEB-DL sources of 1080p always play perfectly.

And when I say they feel like 15FPS, the properties on mpc-hc clearly state 25FPS or other, it's like it has duplicate frames.

>it feels like 15FPS
>feels like
Why don't you actually go through the video frame by frame and see what's going on?

The problem is definite, "feeling" is just a figure of speech. So it's only a matter of why. Yes, you are right I could look into the specific technical issue.

My best current theory is that some frames are simply duplicate. They are presented to the properties as "25FPS" but not really.

I'm not very motivated to look much into it since the best players around (mpc-hc, mplayer, etc.) do it so it's clearly a fucked up source.
