I just bought it too, using for a month now and got 0 complaints. Love how fast it is, how fast it charges (completely stopped charging at night, just do it when im showering now) and love the battery life.

havent tried the new android yet but hope stable build of it comes soon.

Budget: around 300€
Country: Austria
Provider: prepaid SIM
Features: android OS (must have or support a gapps free version), decent cam, m-sdhc support, good battery life
Size: must fit into the front pocket of my jeans with ease

The only smartphone I owned before was an old Samsung Galaxy-S3, which I was pretty content with (apart from it's age and slightly wacky build quality).
Not really a smarthpone enthusiast, I'd probably go for an chink phone myself, but would like to confirm I can install a botnet and gapps-free OS beforehand.

Hey /spg/ I'm currently using a Galaxy S5. Have been for close to 3 years iirc. Anyways, it is getting near the end of its lifespan and I'm starting to keep an eye out for a new phone. Uni student so $100-$200 budget. I've really loved my S5 would upgrading to like an S6 or maybe an older not be a good idea? Honestly, I've considered buying another S5. Any suggestions?

Is it even worth it to change my nexus 5? The only things I hate are the battery life and that it's beat to shit with a cracked screen but that's on me. The camera is shit too but I don't care because I sink most my money into photography shit anyways. The 20something gbs of storage aren't enough for my music.
Moto G4/plus a good upgrade? Other options around the same price group?
>>
>>58406032
Just reminded me that the official CM maintainer for Redmi 3/Pro (ido) also released a preliminary LineageOS ROM while their new servers get up and running:

http://anikkhan.me/lineageos-for-ido/

I've been using it for a day and everything works so far, battery is not as good as MIUI but it's still solid.
>>
>>58406111
Battery will never be good as MIUI due to the fact that MIUI is pretty aggressive with battery saving settings by default.
>>
>be oneplus x owner

>cold is pretty intense
>phone battery is full
>by the time I get home the li-on battery has been completely depleted

>will not charge at all, will not even show any signs of life plugged in

I have learned two valuable lessons. first, not to buy chink shit. second, not to buy phones without swappable batteries.
>>
>>58406154
Yeah, I know. Still doesn't hurt to warn those not used to how MIUI handles stuff. It's so aggressive with the task freezing that most apps just won't give push notifications unless you're constantly using them, sometimes even after explicitly allowing them to. 8 hours battery life in MIUI is truly insane but I'd rather have 5-6 in CM with a much better user experience.
>>

My galaxy s7 review after 7 months of use:

Coming from nexus 5x

+I really like it's shape, I like the way it bends into my palm, it's really comfortable (at first).
+really nice screen, beautiful colors and very sharp, 5X looks like monochrome next to it
+it's taking one of the best photos I've seen on smartphones
+battery is good enough, easily lasts 1 day with really heavy use
+it has fingerprint reader, I like fingerprint reader
+sd card slot, but I don't really care about this
+it has the fastest processor on the market
+notification led, can be seen from many angles, some phones don't even have one anymore
-but it's not enough to drive the laggy shit touchwiz without lag
-touchwiz is pretty bad, even with a changed launcher, you have to handle a lot of touchwiz
-preinstalled bloatware hell, there's two instances of everything, calendar, email, etc, horrible. Package disabler pro helps a lot, I have 150+ services disabled!!! (maybe that's why I have good battery life)
-the curved glass makes using glass screen protectors nearly impossible. I hate that curved glass is a trend now
-glass on the back, completely unnecessary. I'd use the phone without a case if it had a good quality polycarbonate back like the nexus 5X and 5 had.
-fingerprint reader on the front, uncomfortable to use this way, it's much better on the back
-hardware buttons are really bad, the placement of the back button is even worse. The size of the phone doesn't require two hands, but the placement of the back button does, really hard to press with 1 hand. Also I have a lot of accidental presses, both back and recent apps buttons.
-microusb, it should have been type-c already
-bottom facing speaker, once you go front facing, you never want bottom facing again
-home and recent apps button have a huge lag when pressed (2-3 seconds sometimes), making multitasking a pain
-doesn't have regular OS updates, still no nougat, this is the flagship of samsung...

This is from the top of my head.

Dear anons, could you give me a buying advice? I just dumped my ages old Nexus 4 and I'm in completely new market for a new one. I know shit. Wiki says that Redmi Note 4 would be a good idea, so that is my first choice so far, but I wanna inquire more.

I care about:
>At least 5,5 inch FHD display.
>Good battery life.
>Smooth system. Doesn't need to be frequently updated but that would be definitely a plus
>Solid metal body.
>At least decent camera

I don't care about:
>Removable battery.
>Sound speakers. I couldn't give a bigger fuck about those.
>All that normie-tier stuff like NFC, wireless charging, being waterproof etc.
>I don't feel any need to root this device.

Still loving my LGV10 for the most part, the only annoying thing is screen retention, which is tempting me to upgrade my phone to either it's big brother the V20, or the Moto Z Force.

I like the 3 camera setup on the V10, and I figure having the tertiary camera on the back would be more useful, and I've grown love the secondary display.

I know I'd miss the headphone jack on the Z, but modularity is awfully intriguing to me, and I also miss having Amoled.

LG is full on cancer, don't take a chance on them regardless of how cheap their phones get.

Why are smartphones so large nowadays?

My old Symbian-powered Nokia C6-01 had a 3.2" display, while my Lumia 620 weighed in at 3.8". This was an ideal range - all parts of the screen were reachable without straining, and they fit into pockets effortlessly.

Even the "Mini" phones are now at least 4.5", and usually worse spec-wise. What gives?

I am in need of a new smartphone.
I currently own a Nexus 5. It has two known issues that normal fixes can no longer resolve, so I am looking for a new phone.

I want stock Android without any bloatware, and proper updates from Google.
My budget is $250
How is the Nexus 5x vs the 6P?

I would prefer a brand name phone so that I can have a good case for it, and a screen protector. Something chinkfones dont really have.

NON-BLOAT phones, who makes them? I hear motolola's pretty good.
>>
>>58409654
moto g4 plus - make sure you got one with BOE screen and not L...someting check XDA, great ROM support, great pictures, otherwise it only has a random touch ghost while laoding which doesnt matter cause you fuckers should leave your phone alone for 90min super charge anyway

if you don't mind a unibody and a worse camera you could get the 6X but that hsit might be bugged and you a beta tester...

or the 6P 2nd hand - it has a SIM bugg on some phones so be aware of that (hardware not software)

If you can get a 2nd hand 6P get it fuck the 5X I would pick the moto G4plus over the 5X and H6X

For english speakers:
I would think of the S5 neo, do not fall for the A5. I have the A5 (2016) and it doesn't even play 1080p 60fps on YT properly (which my old LG G2 managed to do)

5X is a great phone, it's just that they are all apparently timebombs.

Unfortunately, the great idea and purpose behind the Nexus line (stock android, decent specs and timely updates and support) is a thing of the past. You have to pay premium for a Pixel if you want any of that.

G4 Plus or a used Nexus 6 (it just got 7.1.1, which will certainly be its last official update, but will still have lots of unofficial support) are probably your best bets

Evening, niggers. I got myself a "Moto X Pure" a few days ago and wanted to root it as well as intall a ROM. I think I'll be alright when it comes to the first part, but I'm unsure of which custom ROM to install on it.

This is my first smartphone, so I don't want to fuck it up and be stuck with something I don't like. I'd just like some good customization features and if possible, a buffed security.

Alright /spg/ this is the conundrum I've still found myself in.

I still use a Galaxy SIII, daily. I run CM on it and it's been basically the perfect device for this. The ability to install a custom ROM gave me literally coming up on 5 years of service out of this phone.

However, I'm now starting to run into software and hardware problems that are difficult to surmount. Apps aren't really written for 5 year old devices and many of them are starting to lag pretty hard. Physically the phone no longer has a working charge port due to hundreds of thousands of connects/disconnects; I charge the phone using a Qi puck and an adapter card over the battery, although this is slow. I've replaced the headphone jack and speaker assembly as well as the battery cover over the life of the phone. I replaced the stock batteries with Ankers after I passed many many thousands of charge/discharge cycles.

So I'm certainly in the market for a new phone, and have been for the past several years. The problem is finding something that meets the following requirements:

1. Pure stock Android and/or the ability to install custom ROMs (unlocked/unlockable bootloader)
2. (A)MOLED display preferably at 1080p or less
3. Expandable storage (microSD)
4. Removable battery
5. Small to medium size form factor (~5" or less)
6. USB Type C

It seems like a phone meeting these specifications doesn't exist. I keep using the SIII because it meets almost all of these, and I refuse to take a step backwards. The closest I have come to deciding on another device is the S5, since with the advent of SamDunk it can be bootloader unlocked and flashed to CM.

So what would you recommend? Should I just keep waiting for a better phone to come out? Buy a used S5? I have considered importing a phone, but whatever I use must be compatible with Verizon Wireless since I have fully unlimited data that I am not giving up. I have no limitation on budget.

I just bought a near-mint iPhone SE 16gb for 230 USD for a business I'm about to start. I wanted something small that could take calls/texts well and something I could use to demonstrate/teach old people smartphones with, so use case isn't demanding. Image was important here, too.

Is there anything I should know about when I get it? iOS is all new to me; if it helps, my personal phone is a Nexus 5, but I'm aware that iOS is severely limited in comparison.

Or did I make a mistake? I figured I could resell it for like 200 dollars if by the end of the year I don't want it anymore at that point.

Ive always used resurrection remix, there is a nougat build of it for your device and it looks pretty solid, i wouldnt recommend flashing cyanogenmod on it for 2 reasons: the rom itself is dead and its too basic for my tastes, RR is based on it yet it incorporates a lot of cosmetic and audio tweaks that CM doesnt have plus optimized kernels most of the time that make the most out of your battery, i had an old laggy moto g1 that barely lasted 3 hours SoT on stock kitkat, with RR marshmallow it went to 5 hours SoT (like when it was new) and no longer lagged on web browsers, games or even the homescreen if i riced heavily, i retired it a year later but if i ever need a backup phone the thing will not feel like an old phone.

>>
>>58412075
Well, it wouldn't be for roughly another month or so anyway. I have time to decide.

Just looking at a stat-line, the Moto choice seems to stand out for me a bit more, though I imagine the camera is the weakest of the three given Moto's history with cameras. A good camera isn't paramount for me, but I appreciate having a decent camera, and am trying to feel out the most well-rounded experience.

It's pretty nice, can't complain about the screen. Still a great phone.
However, the LG G2 came with 4.4.x KitKat and is only upgradeable to 5.0.1 through the LG PC-Suite. Sadly, the USB-C port and battery got fucked
>>
>>58412102

Type C isn't an absolute requirement, just a strong preference - I could live without it. AMOLED is a serious requirement though; I wouldn't buy the G4 Play. I hate the large USB 3.0 port on the S5 but I would probably prefer it to not having a working charge port at all.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
>>
>>58411939
>>58411945
The hype for the Pixel is wasted by this exclusivity deal. Normies will forget about it by the time more carriers sell it.
>>
>>58412183
I would suggest considering another phone, and i will tell you why.

The LG V20 looks pretty good, amazing camera, removable battery, IR blaster, expandable storage and top tier specs, but the thing is almost 6 inches in size, not to mention the horrible bootloop issue all flagship LG phones suffer from because of shitty soldering, this is not a joke https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3-DLt72X3c if you cant read the comments the dude says his V20 shit the bed after 3 months of normal use.

The Pixel is just overpriced for what it offers, unfortunately for (((them))) android users do have a choice whenever looking for a new flagship phone without paying up the ass for it, you can get the exact same specs and camera WITH an sd slot for half the price with other brands, it also has a few hardware issues, namely the lens flare of the camera (which most "tech" sites had the nerve to advertise as a feature while stealthily posting guides on how to lessen it in the same article) and the speaker crackling if playing audio at max volume, which paid pajeets and burgers tried to fix with some next level jewish trickery; custom roms where all they did was lower the max volume one level so the speaker issue doesnt kick in.

The Z Force is probably your best choice, you worry about moto cameras but thats only a problem with their budget phones, they obviously cant shove their best ones on a $179 device, but i can assure you their flagship cameras are up to par, the phone itself has more or less the same specs and features as the V20 (plus the Moto mods, which arent worth it imo) but with a bigger battery, unfortunately it doesnt have a 3.5mm jack but the phone should come with a (easily replaceable) 3.5mm to type c adapter and earbuds so you arent getting jewed as badly as with apple, still id say this makes it not worth buying-
>>
>>58412560
>still id say this makes it not worth buying-
So the Moto Z is the best choice of my 3 and still not worth it?

I wonder where to go then, I don't really want HTC because I don't care for Sense. Maybe One+?

If you live in a city, T-Mobile's great. If you don't, I wouldn't be too happy with either AT&T or Verizon but I'd probably stick to Verizon. Just avoid Sprint like the plague.

If getting a flagship is a concern, I'd suggest getting a phone on installment either through Verizon themselves or Best Buy. It's no more expensive than buying outright, especially if you get it during a promotional sale. Only thing that sucks is you'll be saddled with that phone for two years, but if that's something you don't mind then you're golden.

Otherwise, yeah. Get the Moto Z Play or Moto X Pure.

Total nuub question, but I see a lot of recommendations for Moto G4. It seems to totally fit what I need but its specs are all-around worse than that of the Samsung S5.

Given that I can fix the S5's bloat, TouchWiz, and Android version with a ROM, what does the G4 have over the S5?

Curious because the only people pointing to the G4 are here, but they're adamant at that. Inform me pls.
>>
>>58414217
Not everyone wants (or knows how) to install a custom ROM to fix a phone.

Also some people just prefer buying new over used
>>
>>58414217
The Moto G4 doesnt have anything over the S5, in fact the S5 is much, much better (AMOLED screen, slightly smaller but removable battery, better camera, IR blaster, fingerprint scan, gyroscope, barometer, heart rate sensor, compass), its just that in most places the Moto G4 can be gotten for as low as 150 dollars brand new, comes with near stock android upgradable to nougat and has decent specs while the S5 is 200 and up used, comes with a cancerous android skin and is outdated by now (for those same 200 you can get a meme ZUK phone with Snapragon 820 and 4GB ram or a much cheaper 4GB ram SD 652 chinkphone), if you can get it for cheap, brand new/in good condition and are willing to "fix" it with a custom rom+kernel i say go ahead and buy it instead of the other phone.

Asus Zenfone Zoom - got it from Newegg for $199 during their New Year promo. This is a fabulous phone. I like the unibody aluminum feel, the leather back, and the good heft. Shit is pretty cool. I'm coming off of a Moto E 2nd Generation so everything is lightening fast and slick. Camera is great to my standards and I've always loved the brick design.

Can anyone attest to the durability of the phone? I've only just got it so I can't say. I'm an autist and am not hyped to get a case because I love the look of the phone, but I'd rather it not get fucked up if it's actually super fragile.
>>
>>58415858

I have an original Xperia Z from when they were first released.

Still works, still fast, camera is ok,battery still lasts unless you are doing shit like shooting video for long periods. Only damage so far has been two small scratches to the back bezel. Haven't had any issues with the waterproofing covers, and I do use it while kayaking sometimes so I know it's still waterproof.

Usually I can go a day or two without thinking I should charge it.

Then again,no one cares about me so it's rarely used so there is that.

Hi /spg/, I'm a flipfag and apparently we don't have HTC 10 here, what phone should I get instead or just have it shipped?
>>
Pajeet here
So I originally bought a moto e2 with AT&T because it looked like an alright phone for the price. The screen crapped out after 2 days, so I had to make a warranty claim.
The AT&T guy claims the moto e2 is hard to find nowadays since it's an old model, so instead of an e2 I'm getting an LG Magna as a replacement.
Looking at the specs it seems alright, if not better than the e2 (bigger creen, 720p, 2500mah battery)
Am I getting jewed here?

GOAT speakers,AMPs and DACs.

So my iphone 5s gets horrible reception where I work; i'm on t-mobile.

People on verizon and at&t tell me they get good reception here. It's in tmobiles 4g lte coverage area.

Would upgrading my phone fix this issue or do I have to switch carriers?

If I have to switch what is my best bet at saving $$$ on a plan, I use the old $30 5g lte + infinite text tmobile and love the cheap cost but missing half my texts at work is not great.

I was thinking of either buying a pixel (non xl), op3t, or iphone 6s.

I like 5" phones the best but the op3t looks like the best price/performance.

Would it get LTE on AT&T though? Does android have any kind of wifi text features like iphone? Where I work I get wifi so half the texts I get are from iphone users.
>>
>>58420836
You might try looking for a phone that support's T-Mobile's band 12 - it supposedly is much better at penetrating through buildings.

I don't know about the OP3T but I know for sure both the Pixel and iPhone 6s/SE and newer have it.

I'm on that same plan, which is why band 12 is one of things I have to look for now when shopping around for a phone (currently using iPhone SE).
>>
>>58420715
If you just want use for audio stuff, probably look into any of the HTC devices. You can pretty much go and buy a new m8 and still be fine.
The S6 can be bought for pretty cheap these days, even cheaper when the S8 hits and it too has great audio quality.

I haven't asked but one of the receptionists has rose gold iphone and was complaining about tmobile and bad reception. I'll ask her next week when she gets back.

I might just buy a prepaid att card and pop it in my 5s and see if it gets good reception in the building. I hate wasting money but if I find it works i'll just use their new $40 plan, I think it has 3 or 4 gb of data.

I was just looking at verizon and they offer higher price for less data. Unless you are in the boonies I don't understand how people pay so much for their prepaid or postpaid.

I'm gonna have to get a newer phone in the near future, my 5s battery life is getting worse.

Still curious about wifi texting on android. i'll look into that more.

I will have to flash and unlock unofficially a rn3p later today, is the following step-by-step guide I've saved still correct ? I hope the formatting doesn't fuck up, and sorry, but can't search right now, expecting guests any moment now.

unlocking bl:
- download global stable firmware (the one you can fastboot) & download mi flash tool & adb files & unlocked emmc_appsboot.mbn
- extract global stable firmware into folder - copy emmc_appsboot.mbn into miui-firmware/images/ (it will replace the old one)
- now boot phone into edl mode (just vol down and power then plug USB cable in - led will blink red constantly if your in edl)
- open mi flash, point it to the miui-firmware - click flash (everything will be erased, even internal storage, so backup stuff to sdcard/PC)
- after its done press and hold vol & power down while booting for 15 seconds to reboot back into fastboot
- open adb folder, should have fastboot shit aswell, open CMD in folder as admin
- fastboot oem unlock-go
- wait for device to unlock (device will reboot and show a mi logo with a progress bar)
- once progress bar goes away, your unlocked.
- press vol down & power for 15s to reboot to fastboot again
- flash twrp
- vol up and power to boot to twrp
- flash cm13-firmware.zip
- flash cm13-date.zip & pico-open-gapps.zip
- reboot and done.
