WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK /g/!? Will be 2017 the year of the Lunix desktop for real???

As soon as Wayland becomes default on Ubuntu, we'll see Linux make some great growth among laptops.

>Wayland on Ubuntu
But muh Mir!

Exactly, YotLD never

Subtract all the girl koders and nu male "geek" phony coders and Mac's share would go to 0%.
Subtract all pajeets and old IBM programmers and Window's share would go to 0%.

I'd rather see hibernate, suspend and wireless configuration not breaking in new and interesting ways in every kernel release.
>implying i would want normies to use linux
no thanks. there are absolutely no benefits to it
>stack overflow
>flatshit design
>relevant
>>58395117
Thats just an ubuntu problem.
>>58395119
Linux already is for normies. Switch to some BSD if you wanna be special.
>>58394962
Xorg is a pain in the ass to setup on Gentoo, how much easier will wayland be?
>>58394907
For a lot of fields that's always been the case.
I work in data analyst and my stack would not run in either mac or Windows.
It'll become the year of the desktop when the desktop "dies" and becomes a niche thing only nerds use, which is about now... so possibly...

LOL. Silicon Valley, which is almost entirely Caucasian and South Asian males, is jam-packed with Macs.
>Subtract all pajeets and old IBM programmers and Window's share would go to 0%.
Most software engineers I've worked with have run Windows as their primary OS. Then a variety of VMs or remote shells for any Linux/server work.
Most companies end up with IT policies that make it much less of a headache to simply run Windows and run other stuff in a VM.

>install upgrade with new kernel, Xorg, Mesa, etc. hoping for improved GPU power saving support and fewer GL issues
>suspend no longer breaks wifi and graphics, yay
>screen backlight no longer turns on after hibernate, have to suspend machine once afterwards
>wifi GUI stuck trying to turn machine into hotspot
>tooltips render as black boxes + some pixel garbage the first time they appear
>>58395194
Everything is a pain in the ass to setup on Gentoo, that's the point.
>>58395194
>>58395386
Only if you are mentally incompetent.
>>58395461
Nobody said it was hard, just a pain in the ass. Stop projecting.
It's like making fire by rubbing two sticks together vs using a lighter.
