Do you guys run your MacBooks (pro or otherwise) at scaled resolutions?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Do you guys run your MacBooks (pro or otherwise) at scaled resolutions? I'm not even sure if that's the right term.

My MacBook can go up to 2880x1800 with RDM but I usually run it at "Default for display" which afaik is 1280x800 with down sampled UI.

I heard that running it at higher resolutions makes the text lose sharpness. Anyone know if this is true?

Why would you buy a macbook?
>>
>>58394055
Light
Fanless
Amazing screen
Amazing trackpad
macOS

Don't need any more reasons really
>>
Macs are sad.

The 13'' maximum resolution is 1680x1050.

So basically anyone with a 1080p resolution has more screen real estate than a $1500 DongleBook Pro.
>>
>>58394106
Well this is just completely incorrect
>>
>>58394055
>>58394106
Hey guys, sorry I have the laptop you want but can't afford but if you're not going to stay on topic then leave the thread.
>>
>>58394131

Max scaled resolution on DBP 13'' is 1680x1050. FACT.

A cheap $400 1080p laptop has more screen real estate than a $1500 laptop. FACT.

>>58394491
You can just choose a higher resolution you dweeb

>trackpad impossible to click near upper edge
>extremely loose near bottom edge
>overall flimsy diving board piece of shit
>even applel themselves has admitted it's utter shit now and has trashed the design to go back to copying 90's era laptops with solid non-click touchpads
>still has no real buttons
>relies on pressure sensitive gimmick bullshit
>if you press too lightly or too hard it does something completely different than what you intended
>ultra shit tier zero travel chiclet keyboard
>OSX is a steaming pile of shit with horrendous battery management
>applel's solution is to cram in a massive heavy 95WHr battery to make up for it
>even XXXTREME GAMER cancer like razer blade with 4X the CPU/GPU power and 70WHr battery matches it in battery life in same tasks
>gets BTFO by 55WHr Yoga 2 in battery life in same tasks
>the battery takes up the space where a cooling system would've been in a laptop not designed by the world's thinnest and lightest gay hipsters
>overheats at the slightest task because abysmal crippled cooling system
>throttles to 800mhz because of chronic overheating problems
>retina meme supposedly for "pros" have have <70% aRGB
>gloss mirror coating makes it impossible to use anywhere outside or with overhead lighting
>blurry as shit retina meme scaling
>shitbook air is even worse with glossy 1366x768 TN eye cancer
>systemic battery explosion problems for over a decade from overheating

>macshit is good
Can we finally put an end to this meme?
>>
>>58394034
I run mine at the highest scaling in sys preferences. default looks hilariously big and atrocious.
>>
>>58394034
I just use default, it seems the most sane option. I'll use another desktop space if I need more space. 80% of time I have at least one 24"+ monitor attached anyway

>>

I own one

15" rmbp here, forgot to say. I could see myself using the smaller scale setting on a 12" screen
>>
>>58394034
More than loosing sharpness is not seeing a fucking shit. Anyway the reason text is so beautiful is pixel density: more pixels = less need for subpixel. You should understand by yourself that drawing a letter with less pixels results in worse rendering for the eye. Sorry about my english.
>>58394092
>Light
I've carried a 2kg laptop on my back every day for 6 years and not once was it a problem
>Fanless
I don't trust it to never overheat, especially since I'm stressing the cpu a lot
>Amazing screen
>Amazing trackpad
Can't say anything about that
>macOS
Couldn't care less
>Don't need any more reasons really
I need a maintainable machine, so Apple and every ultrabook shit I'm not even considering
>>
>>58394748

Why? Genuinely curious 15" mbp owner here.
>>
>>58394034
I run mine at 1920*1200, seems to be the optimal balance between usable space and visibility.
Didn't notice any sharpness problems compared to 1440*900 retina.

>>58394742
Me, me, me.

>>58394764
Design alone made me irrationally interested in it. The lightness-fanlessness is a huge bonus too. It's basically the laptop I always wanted, pure minimalism and the basics while getting the important things like battery life/trackpad/screen right.

I never was in the market for 15" though and my decision was between 13" rMBP or rMB, I don't need the ports but the size/weight was a big benefit. I didn't mind the smaller screen either. Only downside for me is the Core M, which is, uhh "functional".

Though unlike many I really love the new keyboard since it feels a lot more direct. (Hated it at start though)
>>
>>58394764
Needed a laptop but don't need it to be powerful

I don't consider laptops other than Apple to be worth choosing. I'm willing to pay higher prices for what I consider almost flawless machines. Every other brand of laptop always has one huge "but" either compared to Apple laptops or just in general
>>
>>58394654
literally copypasta

>I don't trust it to never overheat, especially since I'm stressing the cpu a lot

Don't worry throttling has your back. It won't let you damage your processor. :^)
