Is a disk cloning device where you plug in a box to a USB slot and it automatically clones a computer's hard disk to an internal (solid state) drive possible?
>pic related, similar boxes are used in watch dogs 2 to clone computer data in physical hacks.
Sure, with the provision that the computer is in a particular configuration which allows that to happen.

What program would it use?
Almost all the drive cloning software I've seen requires you to boot into a linux distro.

partition manager
I'm fairly sure HDD docking stations with multiple slots exist that clone a disk contents to another without even being connected to a computer. Even chink ones like orico iirc.

You don't need a special program, just write a script#!/bin/sh
dev=/dev/sdb
while true; do
while ! [ -f $dev ]; do sleep 1; done
dd if=$dev of="$(date).img"
beep
while [ -f $dev ]; do sleep 1; done
done
This script will work on: Linux distros, macos, *BSD, Android, most POSIX or UNIX compatibile systems.
It will not work on: Windows, iOS
