I keep a fully copy of all the drivers to re-install windows 7 and 10 on my desktop. As well as win7 and win10 ISOs. I have a direct that is filled with ~100 odd installers and wares that I just keep handy (llvm compiler toolchain, virtual box installers, wireshark, 7zip, rufus usb imaging tool, etc.) I have a handful of linux distros and MS-SQL 2014 dev edition ISO as well as MS-VS2015 full ISO.
Really nice never having to download crap.
What do you have?
>>
>>58345963
Because it's about 3x the storage space of both hard drives in my current desktop combined (most of which isn't used or is redundant) and probably just under 2x the storage space of every hard drive, flash drive, and SD card I've used over the past 9 years combined. While it's ridiculous how far things have come, it's going to be expensive and I have no use for that much storage. Without redundant files I could store all the data I've ever saved or bought CD/DVD copies of in my life on that. Hell, I might even be able to do so with redundant files. This is about as relevant to my needs as Seagate's 60 TB 3.5" SSD that they're going to start selling this year.

Is about the only reason I'd think of getting one. But at that price I'd probably just want a 2.5" HDD. I'm one of those who don't completely trust the longevity of SSD/usb flash for long term storage. Not fond of any encrypting on them either.

I assume it's price will be huge compared to a 2.5" HDD of the same volume. Just not sure of why I'd want to pay so much for something a few grams lighter.

>>
>>58347915

you replying still counts towards it being shit you tard.
>>
>>58346522

Our ICBM launch computers use 8" floppies. In all their 80KB glory.
>>
>>58346710

Unless you're in the habit of flushing your desktop/others down the drain on a regular basis carrying all that is a bit of overkill. I've got some 200gb of unix/win installs + hundreds of outdated apps over the years I keep, but I only do this stuff once a month at best. Should carry some live boot distro as well.

>>58347565

Windows can be a little shit and not find some network drivers right away as we all know. But trying to carry everything you need or using another device can be a pain. It's really all down to how often you do this. I keep all Mobo CDs/boxes and each driver update in my apps collection. But that's only for the current desktop. It can be a nightmare of trust searching for drivers for hardware older than 5 years. It's just about what you interact with and how often.

>>58347830

So why not use a large external SSD or HDD. Flash isn't ideal for storage but people seem quite happy to store very vital information in USBs and keep them as storage devices anyway. Certainly have friends and family who use them in that manner, not just as transfer mediums between devices.
>>
>>58345846
>It's tiny, yet huge.

Just like my dick. ;)
>>
>>58346399

Might actually be true. Think we've got a few 500mb HDDs around somewhere. Certainly used more floppies as a child, CDs hadn't yet become super cheap. Trying to remember the mid 90's is difficult. Didn't use 5" floppies that much, but went through a few years of 3" being the primary source of games, mid 90's win95 era.

Hilarious stories of how my father bought a 20mhz computer for $2k+ some decades ago, still got that rust bucket somewhere.
>>
>>58347830
This thing is supposedly going to be ~$1,000. A 2.5" portable hard drive enclosure and a 1TB or 2TB 2.5" HDD would be significantly cheaper and wouldn't have a reputation for failing like flash drives do. For most people who don't have playing Johnny Mnemonic and smuggling large amounts of data inside their anus as their planned use, a portable hard drive seems like a better deal.
