Why has the IT industry devolved into shitty call center jobs? I feel like I've wasted 4 years since everything is 90% customer support and 10% system management. Are future programmers and web developers also screwed in their respective fields?

it's because customer service is one of ITs biggest hurdles. Most kids good at IT have poor social skills. It's rare to find someone who has great social skills and can turn screws without prior experience.
