What language does /g/ code in. I'm thinking about starting in PhP because my friend loves using it and something called laravel as an MVC framework. Thoughts?

PHP has a very annoying syntax
Swift because it's open source.

At work: Python
Personal projects: Pike
I like Pike; I used to MUD a lot in college, and it is descended from LPC, so it just feels comfortable.

>my friend
Friends don't let friends program in PHP.
Scheme and C.
>>58315362

>What language does /g/ code in
C for kernel stuff
C++ for userlevel stuff
Python and R for number crunching and spitting out fancy graphs
Python for scripting stuff

There's a difference between using node as tooling and actually using it in your server side architecture.
If that's all you use, then I can assure you that you are not a nodejs ninja. You probably don't have a clue how it really works or what it can do.
Lua 5.3, fight me.
Work: C++ and Python mostly, sometimes MATLAB.
Personal: Whatever I feel like learning at the time, mostly.

I really should learn a low level language, but I just don't have a need to yet.
Why does python feel so modern even though its so old?
>>58317243
probably because it's so progressive and tolerant
>>58317243
just werks
tons of updated modules
sugar syntax
Java for work. Rust for hobby projects.

PHP is fine, but don't use Laravel. It is nothing but baby's first framework tier, and it's extremely opinionated. When you're learning laravel, those skills won't be applicable to anything but laravel. I have 15 years of php experience and use a framework called Phalcon. I use it primarily because of speed, the applications I develop are high traffic, but it also has a tremendously flexible implementation.
