Hey topre users, would you say that topre boards are significantly different enough in feel to choose a brand to buy from, or is the choice of which to get more dependant on the layouts?
I'm thinking about getting one and I don't know which to choose between the three big manufacturers.

If he likes tactile switches he could try a vintage rubber dome or MX Browns, but I hate them.

I know that Windows has a kernel mode driver to fix that, and that there are solutions in Linux and OSX for it as well, but dude.
If you want an Emacs keyboard, it should have Caps Lock turned into a ctrl from the get-go.

What's a cute TKL Keyboard with RGB leds and ISO layout?
I looked at the mk disco tkl rgb and it seemed nice, but realised they don't have ISO layout ones.

It'd need shipping to germany. Budget is pretty much open, but cheaper would be obviously better.

I'd also love if there was a way to choose the keycaps (ie. colors and motiv for the windows key), so I don't have to buy another ones. I'd also prefer if the design is pretty minimal (no obvious branding or gaymer design).

I currently have mx reds, but I would be happy with blues or similar too.
>>
Is the logitech G710 the best choice for mechanical keyboards if I want one with some macro buttons? Can't stand the new romer g switches (need muh click clacks). Corsair's K95 is another option, but the software looks like shit and it's a bit more expensive. Don't like Razer's because you can't map folders easily with the macro keys.

It's pretty nice. The wood looks great, it fits almost perfectly the width of my keyboard, and it's not uncomfortable to use. It came with a very smooth coating that wore off pretty fast, but that didn't make it unpleasant, just that now I can sort of feel the wood grains, but it's still a solid piece of wood that I can polish and maybe varnish later if I want to. It has a smooth curve on the top and some pretty decent big feet to help keep it from slipping. For like $25 it was a pretty good purchase.
>>
>>58306048
I'm this anon >>58305721 and I like it a lot. Wasn't a big fan of the stock keycaps with the CM logo, but I swapped them out and it's pretty great. No edgy gamer stuff and some pretty nice RGB LEDs that you can customize on the keyboard itself with no drivers, though you can also download their desktop software to do it easier if you want.
>>
>>58306026
The corsair looks shit, but the duckys look cute.
Currently looking at reviews for the ducky one tkl.

Anyone has one and knows if there's something I need to know about these?
>>
>>58306119
Hi, >>58306060 here
Would you recommend it as an upgrade to a Rapid-i? I just got an Anne Pro but Gateron Greens are too damn clicky.

>>58306166
Yeah, there's also the Rapoo which looks as terrible as the Corsair.

I'd go with the CM or Ducky, though I lean towards CM because the Rapid-I is pretty good.
>>
>>58306166
I don't have a Ducky One TKL specifically, but have a Shine 4. Ducky quality is really good, and there was support for some keymods (hardware) so I liked that. Had no issues with the board other than the fact that I didn't love the brown switches.

Can't speak about the CM boards, but I've heard they're good as well.
>>
>>58306193
>Would you recommend it as an upgrade to a Rapid-i?
Only if you want RGB LEDs. Apart from that, they seem almost identical.

I also ordered an Anne Pro, but with Gateron Reds. They're on back order, so I'm still waiting for shipping. How are you liking it? Is it well constructed? Just wanted something cheap-ish to play games on, and it seemed quite nice for $80, considering it has meme LEDs, PBT caps and even bluetooth.
>>
>>58306239
I'll skip that then and go hunting keycaps.

I got it during Black Friday but it took ages and just arrived before New Years' Eve, but I was particularly unlucky with Christmas in between probably.

Gateron Blues are as I said clicky as hell, but Gateron Reds should be heaven, I've been told. Generally the keyboard feels great, though there's a loud THOCK when the spacebar returns. When it arrived, it was a little bit flexed, but flexing it to the other side fixed that. Feels sturdy overall but the case certainly is not as nice as my Rapid-i.

The rubber feet are grippy as fuck. The programmable Fn-layer and on-the-fly switching of layouts is neat, though it's not fully programmable and it needs to happen over bluetooth with this Engrish app.

Bluetooth is good once connected but a bit spotty. Might need to cycle/set profiles. Going into Bluetooth mode and re-selecting the bluetooth profile works great for me, but it's an extra step.

If you just stick with USB for input and bluetooth for config you should be good. Bluetooth is good when connection is established though.

I can go on but text limit
>>
I have two stupid questions:

1. What's the cheapest I could find a functional MX Black board on Amazon?

I want a board with MX type stems for more keycap options. I can't seem to find anything for under 50 dollars. If I can't find one, I'll just buy a magicforce 68 with some Outemu blacks.

2. Has anyone tried the Topre to MX sliders that have popped up on ebay and aliexpress?

I'm willing to use them instead of an MX board if their quality is similar or identical to the stock HHKB sliders.

Got the MOD-M & MOD-H switches in.They feel about as smooth as my clears lubed with krytox (zeals being smoother than either). The MOD-Ms are slightly lighter than the 67g zeals. The MOD-Hs are slightly lighter than the 78g zeals. MX clears are still heaviest among them.

Maybe because they're not as smooth, the MOD switches feel slightly snappier/more noticeably tactile than the zeals.

I set out originally to find something lighter than clears but not so light that I'd bottom them out constantly. Right now I'm leaning towards that being the MOD-Hs.

That's because "tactile" and "linear" come from Latin roots and "clicky" comes from native Anglo-Saxon (ie. Germanic) onomatopoeia. Allow me a few minutes of research and I will invent a word for you so you don't have to be such an Anglo-Saxon pleb.

Keyboard is the $35 Tomoko so I can't justify it. I love the build quality of the keyboard for the price, it's the sturdiest one I've owned yet since it has a metal faceplate and big props with rubber on them, but the actual keycaps themselves are cheap, cheaper than my membrane keyboard was.

I don't know, I'm not a poorfag so maybe I'll just turn it into a $65 keyboard eventually. I'll see if the lettering starts wearing off first.

even for that price I'd rather get a ducky one, which is slightly cheaper with similar build quality and has pbt keycaps

Is there a hub or something with all of the ones going? I don't wanna miss out
>>
>>58320421
Terminal runs in a few days
GMK Laser
GMK Carbon R2
SA Carbon R3
Some MiTo set in the fall
>>
>>58320430
There's a pinned thread on geekhack keeping track of currently running groupbuys.

>>58320489
Don't forget SA oblivion and GMK yuri. There's the SA soware set on originative right now, but it's ridiculously expensive.
>>
>>58320512
I thought Yuri was going to be SA?
>>
>>58320525
Originally yes, but it's GMK now. There was also talk of doing a tripleshot latin+cyrillic caps if it proved popular enough (a bit pie in the sky imo).
>>
>>58320489
gmk honeywell looks nice, but I wish the numpad was black and the colors were closer to the original
>>
>>58320552
Huh. Well, idk how GMK profile is yet, so idk if I want it

>Budget
I have a budget that can buy a sports car.
>Location (continent at least)
US. I live near a Micro Center.
>Preferred switch type
I'm undecided between red and black.
>Layout
ANSI
>Form factor
100%
>Backlight
Optional, preferably one I can turn off.
>Previous/current keyboards

I get a lot of use out of the zoom and audio buttons. The rest just get in the way.
>>
>>58320577
I've never used GMK or Cherry profile tho

then get a Korean custom with that budget. I'm sure Duck or Gon will happily make one for you
>>
ever since i switched to lighter switches, my typos have increased dramatically. any idea why?
>>
>>58320709
That's the way it goes right after you switch to lighter
>>
>>58320709
what kind of typos?
Like these: ther quick brown focxc jumps over the lazy dog

or these: thhe quick brown fox jumpss over the lazy doog

lol And that's on the fairly cheap side these days. They really blew up in prices in the past year. I mean, Clacks have always flipped for the past few years, but only recently have they gone in the quadruple digits.

It's so fucking stupid, but if someone is going to pay you $1k for one keycap are you going to object?

looks really comfy, man.

>>
>>58320704
There's a difference between buying one I want and getting a custom that I'll hate myself for designing. Also what >>58320809 said.

I exaggerated the budget to get recommendations on things that'll suit what I want, not get "just design one yourself lol" responses.

Are you a linguist or someone that likes language?
Rare to see here.

What layout is the best and why is it the Varmilo 68?
>>
>>58320735
first kind.

>>58320722
so basically i just have sloppy typing?
>>
>>58320902
Apparently he takes only a few months (like 1-2) to ship out just parts.
I wanted to assemble my own but didn't have the money so I just bought another HHKB.
The normal one is definetly better than the JP version for me except for the arrow keys, but that's just a gayming thing.
>>58321028
>so basically i just have sloppy typing
You have to get used to the board.
My accuracy is ~95+ and I get 80wpm on that, but I once got 99 and my wpm was 95; not great but much better.
>>
What Gat switches should I consider if I mainly prefer MX Clears and Blues but that don't make a shitload of noise? I've been thinking about trying the Gat Blacks but I don't know if I'd enjoy going from Clears to linears.

I had that problem too. You can fix it over time by getting used to it (took me a week) or you could get uniform low profile keycaps like g20
>>
>>58320931
Yeah there's maybe 3 linguists total in the whole history of 4chan.

...Sometimes I get lonely.
>>
>>58321062
The closest gateron to clears are zealios. Either those or MOD switches. If you like the weight of clears then either 78g zeals or MOD-Hs would probably work for you. They're not as heavy as stock clears, but still have a good weight.
>>
>>58321062
Gateron did make cherry clear knockoffs, but the zealios guy got pissy at them so they stopped.
If you don't want zeals then gateron blues is your only other choice.
>>
>>58321087
How did you become a linguist? College for it?
>>
>>58321102
>>58321115
I do want Zeals but I can't be assed to make a custom board. I've been looking at getting the Varmilo 68 since that has my ideal layout but Gat don't have any Clear equivalent so I think I just have to suck it up and get Blues and not care if I piss people off.
>>
>>58321167
What about the tada68? It can be bought with MOD switches.
>>
>>58321167
there are keyboards that come with zeals pre-installed, but those are expenisce
>>
>>58321121
There aren't a lot of linguistics jobs in real life. There's demand for maybe a hundred field linguists to camp out in rainforests researching the languages of dying tribes, and ten or twenty consultants inventing new languages for movies and games. Everyone else just ends up teaching linguistics. I studied it in college for a while and then became a programmer.

Should I expect to get boned by customs if I get a keyboard via Massdrop in Europe?

>>
>>58321271
Definitely
>>

>>
>>58321558
okay I lied. It was actually a $500 audiophile headphone that had a limited run of like 150 units. But yes you are correct, they are morons.
