Most people use laptops as their main machine.

I haven't really noticed that. I run it on all my machines. Two desktops, three laptops, two servers.

I don't understand why people install linux onl laptops in the first place. The OSS community doesn't really care about battery usage and thus Windows usually gives much longer battery life.

Bumblebee is not installed by default in most distributions and getting a AMD equivalent is a major pain in the ass.

Not to mention that linux is the "works for me :^)" operating system. As long as a certain feature works and is not too inefficient nobody really wants to bother rewriting it, preferring to work on adding new features or fixing bugs instead.
