My gpu just died. Whats a good gpu that can run games at 1080p pretty much maxed out without going under 60 fps. My last card was an xfx r9 290. I dont care about 4k
>>
>>58299531
Wait literally 1 week to see what AMD has in store with their new cards before buying one. Also RMA the 290 so you can at least sell it when the new ones come out.
>>
>>58299648
Ive had the 290 for over a year
>>
>>58299531

Learn from your mistake and get a gtx 1060 or 1070.

Best wishes for 2017!
>>
RX 480 8Gb.

There's Vega coming soon, but a 480 can play anything at 1080P.
>>
>>58299669
Then use the warranty to get another, dumbass.
>>
>>58299741

> 1080P
> 8GB
> OP states he doesn't care about 4K

Nice comprehensible reading, faggot.
>>
>>58299752
$15 for future proofing for crossfire.

Also, some games use more than 4Gb of VRAM for 1080P. Was just playing doom and it was at 5Gb with nightmare textures.
>>
>>58299761

>future proofing
>crossfire

Two terms you shouldn't be using in the context of GPUs
>>
>>58299761
PS: dx12 allows gpus to add up VRAM. I'm not sure about that SLI/XF bridge having enough bandwidth to prevent bottlenecking though.
>>
>>58299782

Just forget multi GPU. It's not viable.
>>
>>58299777
It's $15 to leave that option open. No reason not to do it. Plus with games being VRAM hungry, it may be needed soon.

>>58299782
It depends on the implementation, but I don't think DX12 will take off. It anything it will be Vulkan.
>>
If you had 290x then 1060/480 will barely give you any gains. In fact both 480 RX and 1060 are so bad in terms of performance and price that you could buy faster 980 or 390x for less than a good non-referenced 480/1060 when stores were clearing shelves. Were you happy with your 290x performance or do you want more? If you want more the only option you have is 1070.
>>
>>58299799
DX12 already took off. Its library is already 3 times bigger than Vulkan's while the API is much younger.
>>
Fucking get it repaired you wasteful cunt.
Contact the manufacturer, they will help you out.
>>
>>58299869
I love how /g/'s answer to shitty AMD hardware is always "RMA it" as if people are supposed to be happy with wasting weeks of their time without having access to vidya.
>>
>>58299682
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANz0CBa0wyg
>>
>>58299884
And thats why god gifted your motherboard with video outputs. Quit whining, and deal with not being able to play the bland AAA game #472 for a few weeks, it wont cost you much if anything at all to RMA.
>>
>>58299742
>>58299669
>>58299869

Isn't it cute...

There's literally no reason to get this thing ''''fixed"". The initial error was buying that piece of shit. It's time for OP to take his loss and buy a decent GPU like a 1060 or 1070.
>>
>>58299884
Better than wasting hundreds of dollars when your shit is under warranty. As the above anon said, use onboard display for a little bit, I'm sure you'll survive 2 whole weeks without vidyas.

Whatever you do just don't buy 480 RX.

You have to understand that 480RX is really dogshit of a card. AMD knows they fucked up and they fucked up big time. Let me state why:

- The main reason why the card seems to be so unfinished is the fact that they were rushing to release it before Pascal. That's the only reason they even sold so many cards in the first place while still losing in sales to 3 times more expensive Nvidia cards. If they released month later AMD's GPU department would literally go bankrupt.

- They had to push the card to the maximum while cutting costs wherever they could in order to interest the buyer. The result is pretty painful.

- No headroom for OC, it allowed paid shills to compare 480RX against stock 1060 while completely discarding the fact that 1060 has free 10% legroom in overclocking while reference $200 480 crashes when adding 50Mhz to the core and gives no gains.

- Extremely high temperatures and noise levels. AMD literally went backwards in that regard to the point where their drivers had to underclock those garbage cards.

But those cards still sold mainly because nobody in this goddamn hobby can wait for a month. Same way Nvidia retards bought "Founders edition" garbage that runs hotter, slower cuz of throttling and costs as much as any non-reference card.

Of course /g/ shills will still use MSRP, stock benchmarks of 1060 and benchmarks of 480 RX non-reference cards that cost as much or more than 1060 but "it's okay when AMD does it".
>>
>>58299913

After those two weeks it starts all over again because the real problem isn't fixed.

Thas GPU needs to be replace by a good one, like the GTX 1070.

>>
>>58300308
The tesselation issue had nothing to do with nvidia or AMD as companies, but with game devs trying to alter their game to appeal to a brand, something that is still going on today with nvidia game releases and AMD game releases
I mean that tesselation scandal is about as relevant now as 3.5Gibibytes

I didn't read the article but I'm sure it touched on how completely and utterly pointless the extra tesselation was for gameplay, even I find it hard to believe that wasn't intentional

I don't have a brand, I only bought my 1070 because the Fury X was the exact same price and insignificantly weaker. I just think brands shoving their own personal brand-game benchmarks onto everybody and claiming their gpu does better on their game is stupid no matter who does it

> I just think brands shoving their own personal brand-game benchmarks onto everybody and claiming their gpu does better on their game is stupid no matter who does it

Anon, you should know better. Can't find a source, cause its really hard to do a simple google search on, but most of the time, when a game is "sponsored" by a graphics card company, they take over or "give assistance" to much of the system engineering for the game, including graphics. I do know that Nvidia uses dx11 proprietary APIs that fuck over AMD, and is the main reason you dont see vulkan taking off.
>>
>>58300446

Higher quality graphics are always unnecessary for gameplay. Higher quality graphics are part of the immersion. I want good graphics because I like that. I guess AMD isn't the GPU to go with then.
>>
>>58300512
Vulkan has been around for a pretty long time and has a base in 3D rendering engines, but only like three fucking games.
DX12 is a step in the right direction (and is used on new nvidia releases), DX11 objectively sucks
>>58300521
The tesselation wasn't graphics, it didn't increase any visual quality or anything beyond the framework that's rendered off of your screen, there was literally no reason to have that much tesselation
>>
>>58300543

>GPU spends ages working on details that aren't even contributing to the graphics quality.
>GPU of another brand handles this way better.

OMG it's a '''SCANDAL''' that a game reveals a flaw in one brand of GPUs!
>>
>>58300575
I agree that the only thing the whole ordeal proved was that nvidia handled that retarded level of tessellation better than AMD cards did
But it is not anything to brag about, it was a one-off issue of developer brandwhoring or extreme incompetence and oversight
Like I said, it's about as relevant now as muh 3.5
>>
>>58299911
I hate AMD CPUs and GPUs but that's just bullshit.

It's a card that is still relevant in most games and it falls under warranty so it's a "free" card while OP waits for the new generation cards or buy a cheap 480 or 1060 or even a 1070.
