shoul i fell for SSD meme if only play vidya and have only SATA II support in mobo?
>>
>>58299326

this shit again?

doesnt matter if you only have sata2. the random access time is superior on an ssd, youll literally cum buckets the first time you use it.

the only thing the sata cap does is prevent the ssd from gaining full speed at sequential operations.

it will still be faster than your hdd tho. in ever aspect it will make your system faster.

i went from 2 hour windows update to 10 minute s just by switching to ssd.
>>
>>58299363
seems reasonable.
are there some /g/ approved SSDs?
>>
>>58299415
Samsung SSDs are the fastest, most reliable and expensive.
I own a rather cheap Crucial M550 256GB, used it for 3 years now. Never gave up on me. You would want to get something newer tho
>>
>>58299415
just pick one, dude. Have some dang confidence in yourself
>>
>>58299435
>inb4 OP picks TLC based SSD
>>
Being a retard who can't speak English properly doesn't make you cool.
It just makes you a retard.
>>
>>58299326

Yes, do it.
>>
>>58299415

Crucial is fine like the one you posted if you want a cheaper option. Samsung will carry better performance and much better write controller longevity but also a much higher price tag.
>>
op here
i just ordered crucial bx200
>>
>>58299326
This OP:
>>58299363
>youll literally cum buckets the first time you use it.
remember the word 'literally' here MEAN literally and not figuratively. I recently bought an SSD and my wife now has to wash cum of my boxers.
>>
>>58299774
you dun goofed. enjoy your bsods and disappearing drive.
>>
>>58299774
Except it wasn't me
i know that TLC are garbage
>>
Transcend SSD370 ?
>>
>>58299415
any 45nm SSD is good, anything that is less is utter shit.
>>
>>58299415
Samsung EVO
>>
>>58299937
don't you mean more?
>>
Wait for Intel Optane aka 3D XPoint.
>>
>>58300346
Less is more
>>
>>58301514
>wait for X
Sorry I don't buy AMD
>>
>>58299326

Spinning hard drive speeds are usually around 100MB/s. An SSD typically starts at around 500MB/s for speeds. SATA II will only get you 300MB/s for speeds but it's still worth it and 3 times faster so just get an SSD anyways.
>>
>>58301556
The sequential speed means jack shit here einstein. You could have a 100MB/s HDD and SSD yet the SSD would perform faster in random iops.
>>
Is ADATA a good ssd brand?
>>
>>58299415
Kingston ones
>>
>>58299433
>Samsung PRO SSDs are the fastest, most reliable and expensive.
fixed
>>
>>58299937
so the MX100 is "utter shit"?
>>
>>58301787
Thanks anon
>>
can someone red pill me? on the best interface speeds, is it...
PCI > SATA 2 > SATA 3 pci being the best?
Whats the difference between PCI-Ex16 and PCI-Ex1
>>
>>58302047
invert the signs and it will be correct
>>
>>58302072
thanks
>>
>>58299326
not really a meme anymore, the technology has matured enough that it's becoming the standard
>>
>>58299415

Doesn't matter what you get. Just get the cheapest one for the size you want. The different between the fastest and the slowest SSD isn't noticeable.
>>
Excuse me, what's the best budget SSD?

250GB is enough, maximum $100 or so.
>>
>>58299930
Just gor myself a Transcend 370S 256GB, it's really comfy.
>>
>>58299326
Go for it.
>>
>>58303381
that's SATA II btw
>>
>>58301787
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp68cR6XtC0

the only difference between the evo and the pro is that the pro can write more before giving out.

literally paying for a red square
>>
>>58303436
Ones TLC others MLC, MLC is way better, TLC is for real budget poorfags and should be avoided at all cost
>>
>>58299415
samsung 850
intel 740
sandisk extreme pro
>>
I have Crucial MX300 and it's great.

>>58303381

If that's SATA II, that test can't be accurate.
You can't read nearly 500MB/s over SATA II
It usually tops out around 270~ in real life tests.
Here's my 840 over SATA II
>>
>>58299326
if you're old is slow and chugging along, SATA II is still better than no SSD at all.

Hopefully you can upgrade in the near future and then get the full speed of the SSD though.
>>
>>58303514
Look it up, MacBook Late 2009 is SATA II
>>
>>58303514
Don't you know that Apple products score better on benchmarks because Apple pays the sites/benchmark devs to fake results?
>>
>>58299326
>ssd meme

but it's not a fucking meme

the first time my fucking pc booted to windows in 20 seconds i thought i was dreaming.

easily one of the best things i bought for my pc.

i actually got that crucial 520 gb version, it's really good.
>>
>>58299801

yep. thats the power of ssds
>>
>>58299415
> /g/ approved

i cringe everytime i see someone write this.

But go for Samsung PRO if you want the best.

or get MX300 for cheap but still good.
>>
>>58304099

with newer computers you can turn on ultrafast boot in bios, thats way better. my system boots up in around 5 seconds now.

thats 5 seconds and im at the login.
>>
i fucked up my install and now my computer boots from my USB drive

but it still boots faster than my buddy's does from an HDD

lol i can't wait til i have an SSD and can do a clean install from a fresh USB stick
>>
>>58303884
Weird, copying from and to the RAM drive gives same results, 4 sec to copy a 2GB file to the RAM drive and 8 sec to copy it back.
>>
>>58304099
>boots in 20 seconds
This also happens on HDD, anon.
>>
>>58304528
Yes, in 1992 on an Amiga
>>
>>58303514

ram cache.

i get 5k read in crystalmark when using ramcache with samsung magician software.

its pretty fucking useless in real tests tho
>>
>>58299415
Not kingston, they're shady bastards.
>>
>>58305214
see
>>58304343
>>
how do you detect if your hdd is dying? I've noticed my pc is noticeably slower these past few weeks and it's not full. I used some weeabo software that can supposedly tell if it's dying and had great results, everything's in the green. It's from 2011 though. Should I start looking for an SSD or is there another fix.
>>
>>58299326

I recently put an 850 EVO in grandpa's old as shit PC that only has SATA II, the improvement was immense.
Sequential speeds mean fuck all for overall system performance, IOPS and latency are where it's at.
Just don't forget to enable AHCI drivers in the registry before changing the SATA mode to it if you're on Win 7 or older. They're disabled by default.
>>
>>58299326
SATA II doesnt mean shit. The mSATA on my T420 is only SATA II but its still way faster then a 7200 RPM in a SATA III bay.
