Well the realforce RGB is selling like shit so I don't think so, but maybe if they designed a better looking keyboard then maybe it would sell. Whats the point of paying $260+ if you are going to get worse build quality then a $100 cherry mx board.

They sold out in two days. They're back in stock now though.

The build quality on mine isn't poor.

How much was it? Gamer shit typically isn't worth it, and reds are linear switches which is pointless IMO. you want browns or clears, something tactile
>>

90CAD, wanted something like blues without the click
>>
>>58275530
That's not terrible for what you're getting, though I can't remember what switches they actually use in those boards. Afaik they aren't cherry
>>
I bought a Cherry MX Blue keyboard once. It was awful.

>retarded key register point so a lot of double letters would occur
>retarded key reset point so pressing a key many times would just register as one press because you need to lift the finger all the fucking way for it to reset

Would a Cherry MX Red keyboard be better?
>>
>>58275574
I have Brown switches, and I have no issues with pressing the same key multiple times.
>>
>>58275574
Browns or clears, friend. red is a meme switch
>>
>>58275646
I love my brown keyboard, but I do tend to bottom keys out too much. I think clear would be a better fit, but I have no way to test it
>>
>>58275822
Clears take a lot of force to activate, too much for me.
They do help to prevent bottom-outs.
>>
>>58275574
Matter of preference I guess. I have no problems with blues. Even for gaming.

I really want to see a video or something of how someone can fuck up using a keyboard with blue switches.
>>
>>58276566
I've never heard of the first point. The second point is a common complaint of blue switches, however.
>>
>>58276566
cherry blue switches are poorly designed in the first place. It took them two attempts to get it passable and even then it still has reset problems that are still common. My keyboard was brand new with blues and it had issues resetting on two of the keys.
>>
>>58276618
I've heard the second complaint before, but I genuinely don't understand how the fuck they're typing or playing games to get that to happen.

>>
>>58276712
Honestly, it depends on how you type.
Reds are basically silent if you type softly and don't bottom out.

You'll even end up typing faster too, because it takes less time to trigger a keypress.

don't forget to buy some of the best lube on the market
I'm going to buy some for my 2 y/o HHKB to make it even quieter.
It's the JP version so the spacebar isn't even that bad but I would love to type on lubed Topre.
>>

wouldn't the lube just trap all of my hotpocket crumbs?

>>58277020
Depends where you lube it. If the lube does not come in contact with the crumbs, like it would with pic related, no issue.
The guy at mechblog.org did not do pic related, but it's the most popular way to lube a HHKB.
This is what he said:
>I later opened up the Type-S all over again, re-lubed the slider rails, but this time lubed the plunger tubes themselves too. This method after doing some research seemed to be less popular than just lubing the slider rails, but I found it to be much more effective. This used pretty much a whole tube of the GH lube both re-lubing the slider rails and lubing all of the stems. After trying this out it was a much more noticeable change. It’s worth noting to anyone thinking about doing this, that lubing does take away from some of the tactility and snappiness of stock Topre, but this is to be expected and a preference in terms of if it feels better or worse. The board was much quieter than before with the plungers lubed and it has in fact almost completely cured the whistling issue. I can’t hear the whistling at all whilst typing on the board anymore which is great, but 2-3 of the keys that were the biggest offenders before when just pressing them alone I can still hear it, but obviously much quieter than before.
>>
>>58276976
Deksthority is an excellent place, but you could also sell them on eBay or Reddit. Why not sell them here? Some one once tried to sell his shine 3 here, but he decided to keep it.

Hi I use membrane gayming keyboard and I was looking for something different to try.

What do you think about Bloody B740A
It is just 70$ here [in time of older reviews it was 180$]

It is too flashy and ugly but I do not really look on my keyboard anyway

I was just curious about the switch quality.

They claim they last 100million clicks.

Yeah I know it's gaymur shit but I'm thinking of picking this up cause it's relatively cheap right now and I don't have a whole lot of canuckbux to spend.
I was reading the FAQ though and the thing about buying keycap sets makes me a bit worried to pull the trigger as eventually it would be nice to swap them out with something a bit nicer. Is it worth it for 90 leafs? If I do get it I'll probably get the version with MX Browns
>>
>>58277596
If you want 100 million key presses then get a model F for like 5 bucks at goodwill. Its also much better built then that hunk of junk

has anyone bought keycaps from alibaba? how are they?
i wanted to make a combination of orange and white so i might end up buying 2 sets of orange and white. and based on the pictures, most of the reds actually look like dark orange and most orange looks too light?

if you're gonna spend 90 on that keyboard might as well spend the extra 10-30 for a proper mech keyboard that will be 100% better
>>
>>58277679
damn dude you better get that
look at that 0.7mm difference
I bet that's why my KDR is negative on everything I play, I need an optic gaming switch
>>
>>58277679
1.5mm lol what razer trash is that
even topre, alps, and cherry have a lower actuation distance and are much more responsive

>>

good luck finding a model f at the goodwill. Basically every keyboard there is just a piece of shit membrane keyboard that came with whatever prebuilt garbage the person bought.
>>

I guess it is simpler to DIY one

Look guys watch me go into a thread about autism over how people spend hundreds of dollars to get keyboard keys that feel different and point out their autism.
>>
>>58277662
You won't be able to change the keycaps, so you're stuck with the shitty stock ones with edgy fonts. I'd either get something cheaper without LEDs or spend a bit more for full on RGB or whatever on a better keyboard with a standard layout.
>>
>>58277679
if actuation distance is so important to you then Leopold has silver switches at 1.2mm, or get a topre with variable actuation distance between 1.2 to 5mm

>>

Anon, there is a variant of those LogiMeme boards without the Romer-G. The switches are on either brown or blue.
>>
Serious question, with all the autism over actuation, reset, travel distance, etc.
Are there actually any real world differences between this shit? Do you actually benefit at all from having to press a key .1mm shorter distance?
I type just as fast with a model m as I do with blues or red or whatever other mechanical switches.
>>
>>58278060
No, it's just a marketing meme so they can sell their cheaper shit for more money for easily impressionable gamers.
>>
>>58278001
You not just get a filco or leopold with those switches instead of that gaudy keyboard
>>
>>58278060
>fast
speed is not a reason for liking mechanical keyboards. this is about how it feels when typing.
you should know, you own a model m
>>
>>58274168
ortholinear keyboards are a best.
>>
>>58278060
For typing not really. At least assuming you're talking about modern switches. Personally the force required is more important and whether you like it to click or not. Actuation distance doesn't make much of difference to me in this application.

For gaming it makes a huge difference for things you spam to have a short actuation/reset. As for faster response time claims I'm not sure. If it's there I don't notice it on my Realforce RGB set to the lowest. I believe that's the shortest actuation distance keyboard that's available that's not a piece of shit. Now if you fat finger shit you're fucked with short actuation distance/light springs.
>>
>>58278113
Just flip the lights off and it's not gaudy anymore you mongo.

>>
>>58278156
>For gaming it makes a huge difference for things you spam to have a short actuation/reset.
Not really. Your peripherals, assuming they function normally, are never going to hold you back. People that blame the color of their mechanical switches for why they're not pro gamers are just lying to themselves.

For that low of a budget you aren't gonna get any quiet mechanical keyboards. The best you can do is maybe buy some o rings for a dollar on ebay. You see the thing is that the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism of the switches

Ducky One TKL RGB or newer MK Disco? What do you think?
>>
>>58280665
They're very similar boards, I always say get whichever you can find cheaper. You can't go wrong

Shine 3 is my favorite case and I like the feel of KBT (greetech) switches so I favor the Disco. the version with stock white keycaps has a white backplate so the LED's really pop in person
>>
>>58280575
alibaba/aliexpress are basically chinese ebay so different manufacturers sell their stuff there. For example EnjoyPBT has some of the best keycaps you can buy and they can be found on aliexpress, while some no name chink brands are also there, most of them are okay and passable.

yeah i;m not really looking for super high end keycaps, since im just starting my adventure. I'm trying to build a orange/white combo and seeing the price buying a set of both isnt that bad. so my main concern is how accurate the colors are from the pictures. since as i said some keycaps that are "red" looks like dark oranges which i would like as opposed to other oranges which are mroe on the light/candy side

Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? I swapped the switches of my Filco MJ2 with zealios. But the pause key doesn't register key hold on both Windows and Linux. Even when I don't release the key, it registers key release instantly after key press. But when I check the switch connection during key press, the measurement stays at 0 ohm.

Am I missing something?

I think that may be normal. I got the same issue when I changed the switches on my Dell AT101W.

Finally bucked up and got a Pok3r with clears. Been sitting on an HHKB for a while. I have to say, the layout of the Pok3r is shit, but good thing it's programmable.

However, I like the clears. It's like it forces you to type without bottoming out keys and I am really not used to that. I like the feeling of being back to Cherry MX, I just need to get used to these switches. Went from Cherry Blues to Topre to Clears now.

What's next? Any custom caps that I need to get to join the meme machine? Miami? GMK Carbon?
>>
>>58283007
How's clears feel? Also can you have shit like Fn-lock or at least easily accessible with one hand? Using an Anne Pro since last week but I really dislike having to FN+WASD, though there isn't anything good for the right hand only.
>>
>>58283007
Just put all-artisans on it for maximum overmeme.
>>
>>58282181
Topre switches are nice. Coming from an HHKB user, I like them a lot. Light switches, early actuation point, god tier layout. The mini usb placement is not my favorite. The dip switches are useful. Volume keys don't work ever. I have to say, I love the keyboard, but I don't know if I can say it's worth the money. Very little customization options due to the layout and topre stems (even though cherry adapters exist).

I don't like TKL keyboards. A Pok3r does everything just as well and in a much smaller, more ergonomic layout.
>>
>>58283007
Does yours have two Layer 3 keys like mine?
>>58282229

>>
>>58274168
Actually considering buying a Cherry Mx Speed switch keyboard. Not even memeing or anything , but I really need to press them as fast as possible. Plus I like cherry reds but wish I didn't have to travel 2 mm to activate them , so 1.2 seems like a dream to me. Am I retarded /g/?
>>
>>58283041
I dunno if they make artisan spacebars. One day, I'll have a K95 with all Artisan keycaps for the ironic meme, don't worry.
>>58283027
No Fn lock, I don't think. The placement of the arrow keys is pretty nice and accessible with just your right hand.

As for what they feel like, imagine a regular spring. Gets harder to push down as you push it down further. Once you hit the actuation point the weight to bottom it out is 95g. That's fucking heavy, btw (and I'm a heavy typist). It pretty much forces you to not bottom out the keys, like I said. If you want to bottom them out, your hands will get tired pretty quickly. I miss keystrokes now and then trying to type at my normal speed (80-90wpm). It'll just take time to get used to. I like them so far, though. Actually quoeter than topre.
>>58283073
Nah. Mine has the right keys.
>>
>>58283160
Just slap an MX stem on a tampon or something.

Also that sounds good. I went from MX Browns to Gateron Blues and I seem to bottom out much less.

I like the click and lack of clack/thock.

I'll need to see to copy the Pok3r layout then.

Also are you alluding to ukkeycaps? They seem to be closed for now, let's hope they have stock left of any of those boards :/

If its plate mount you have to desolder every switch, otherwise yes
>>
>>58285149
There are other keyboards like the rs96 and duck lightsaver, but you probably cant afford them

I recently borrowed to my father my ozone strike battle, he really loved it and now wants his own mechanical. Could you advice something with similar form factor, and possibly less gaymer-core? (mx blues preferably)

Tomoko i500 if you don't mind knockoff blue switches. I really like it, but it's the only mechanical I've ever used to can't compare it to Cherry MX Blues.

Don't know if it off topic but, bought a ducky shine 5 from kustom because it was in the sticky. Bought it the 20th of December, and I am living outside the UK. How long is it going to take before my item is shipped?

Do you like the gamer aesthetic and a gaudy font, as well as paying more for useless features like an extra long ctrl key? If so then go for it, or just go with the shine 5 if you want RGB lighting.

thank goodness I bought mine before they became popular. I had the guy remove the keycaps and clean the whole keyboard for me before he shipped it since I was the only one that wanted to buy it. Now days a clean model M would cost you as much as 100 bucks.

OK

so i found a set of orange and a set of white in ali express, it's IKBC, first pic is pretty much what my kb will look like. Only gripe i have is the font and the shift button. Honestly this might be my best shot at getting orange/white combo. In total both sets are gonna be 50$, free shipping 29-39 days

OR

should i go with the TaiHao's? set is 60$ with shipping nice fonts, only minor gripe is i wish the insert, prt scrn buttons, etc where white

opinions?

Haven't tried that, but I don't think that it'd be a problem since the numpad sends numpad scancodes to the computato, input source of the key combos shouldn't make a difference.

If TKL is so much better than a Full keyboard, why do even the most basic Logitech-tier keyboards include the numpad? Couldn't they save money by manufacturing less?

rubber domes are cheap as fuck to make and it makes no sense to spend the extra money on getting new tooling just to make a TKL.
Back then when keyboards were expensive they did make keyboards without the numpad to save costs. Only administrator keyboards came with numpads, or if you were an accountant then you got a separate numpad

does this look liek orange glow or more dark yellows? ya'll think this would look alright mixed with orange a-z?
>>
I don't think I could do without the numpad, I just wish that the standard was to put it on the left side of the keyboard, same with the arrows and pg up/pg down etc. this would push the keys that you actually use to the right and more centered to the user when using a mouse, and make it more natural to use the home/end/pg up/pg down with the left hand while using the mouse with the right hand.
