Wholy shit anon, I just tried it after using the stock player for so long, that it blew my mind! I think it's even better than my computer (well, I have a shitty 10 year old laptop and my phone is a Galaxy S5).
I'm guessing the downside is that it uses more battery, so I'll be using the stock player at work all day long just to block outside noise, but use Neutron outside of it.

I haven't really noticed that desu, or at least it hasn't bothered me (yet). I just quickly searched, and it seems like there are schedulers as a "fix" which keep connections alive. This will drain your battery faster though.
>>
>>58270824
Downloading video or audio for offline. Probably an extension that does that but on my device a dedicated app also plays a little better/smoother than FF.

If I understand correctly the way push services work is if for example your phone's screen is off it will send all messages from third party services to one server (e.g. Google's or Apple's) and your phone maintains a connection with that one server instead of all the third party services (like WhatsApp).

Either you could (in no particular order):
1. Try disabling battery optimization for WhatsApp
https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20887936
2. Run your own push server. Probably no easy way to do this yet. Discussion:
https://github.com/WhisperSystems/Signal-Android/issues/1106
3. MicroG allows you to install only the GsfProxy so you can still use Google's push notification service. Con: Google still has some of your metadata.
https://github.com/microg/android_packages_apps_GmsCore/wiki
4. Not tested, perhaps something like this? Haven't found anything on FDroid yet.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=andQlimax

None of these are things I would personally do apart from the first one or two. Perhaps the fourth if it is available on F-Droid.
>>
>>58270970
Reviews say the app I linked (#4) still doesn't fix the delay for WhatsApp messages.

wifi analyser (check local wifi networks for name, channel, etc.)
terminal emulator (obligatory for every /g/entooman and /g/irl)

Silence is signal but with cell towers so I guess it will be more reliable than using google push notifications. Signal doesn't store metadata, and avoids sms fees, and can contact ios users so that's something else a person on here might want.

For anyone that uses K-9 instead of Gmail, do you get notifications whenever you receive new mail automatically without having the app open (like an IM client ie whatsapp messenger etc) or do you have to have the program running in the background at all times to get them? I've set up my main email account on it, not the google one, and I get jackshit unless I open K-9 and manually refresh.

I don't have greenify or other task killers/cleaners by the way, and I'm running unofficial CM13 on a Moto G4P without gapps, thus the need for F-Droid and cracked apps updated with APK Track.
>>
>>58272354
Textra is the only good one that respects your freedoms and has a lot of features.

I personally never use old sms, just the once-every-two-months LINE text or regular call to my parents and aunt, and yes I did force them to download and use said app just to communicate with me, I refuse to make an account for any kind of social media or giving some app my email and phone number.
