What's the best laptop for programming?
All I want is a 1080p screen, good linux support, and a good keyboard. I don't want to pay $$ for a quad-core CPU, 16GB RAM and a high performance discrete card

if you're actually programming, you won't need more than 8GB - let alone 16. That's for graphics rendering and other route math - shit that if you were actually "just programming" would be done on the metal on the real machine.
I guess you could argue about compile times or whatever but desu just pay for good equipment. search macbook on emay or CL until you get to a price that works for you. Ubuntu works out of the box minus suspend, but mac is mostly unix anyway and the really good programming tools are written for OSX or whatever they're calling it these days.
my opinion is to just search "macbook" on CL or amazon or ebay and sort until you find a price you're comfy with

Thinkpad x60

I think you misread my post. I DONT want to pay extra for more RAM, and either way I have some lying about. Thanks for your suggestions anyways
