i can't stop using it
it's just simply way too good compared to the other engines, duckduckgo, searx etc etc

can you recommend a search engine that can even remotely compete with google in terms good search results and performance?

Searx literally uses google and other search engines. Why are you so retarded OP?

it's pretty shit

I'm calling bullshit
>>
>>58262327
if it was good i'd use it right the fuck away because i want as much privacy as possible

just make a hard search (like a tutorial or something) and compare the differences

also google images is god tier for porn
>>
>>58262392
>still fapping to still images
>>
>>58262392
give an example to search, because I've had no problems.

>also google images is god tier for porn
Actually yandex and bing are better, which searx can use aswell.
>>
>>58262392
you are aware that the reason google is so good is because they have you thoroughly in their system?
and if you remove yourself from it you get "irrelevant results"
>>
>>58262446
>being redundant
>>
Google results are as good as they are because they use the profile they've built on you to curate results to fit you.
The botnet is convenient. That's how it draws people in.
>>
>>58262083
>way too good

Obviously. They constantly track you online, scrape data from your Android phone, and read your mail, if you use GMail. All that information is compiled under your unique ID on Google servers, and is dipped into as needed.

And then you act surprised, when they basically read your mind when you do a Google search.

Shiggy diggy.
>>
>>58262493
just google "how to solve a keyboard problem" for example
searx goes off the shelf and gives me links on how to solve bluetooth

meanwhile google gives relevant keyboard prolem results

>>58262500
>you are aware that the reason google is so good is because they have you thoroughly in their system?
explain?
>>
>>58262571
if you search for {weirdFetish} google remembers that
then if you search porn it sees oh he googled before {weirdFetish} so let us offer him more of that

of course this is grossly simplified
>>
Yacy lets you be your own Google and you can lord all your power on anyone else who isn't a search engine person
>>
>>58262571
Seems fine to me. Especially since the don't have a profile about me.
>>
>>58262571
Take an ambiguous search like "sublime."
If you've Googled software, programming, and web development/design keywords a lot in the past, then Google is more likely to recommend "Sublime Text" in your results.
If you've Googled a lot of music-related keywords, then Google is more likely to recommend the band "Sublime" in your results.
>>
>>58262083
I like startpage but it often fails when it comes to obscure searches, quoted searches, site-specific searches, date-specific searches, image searches, etc. Even though it utilizes Google it leaves out some results, and I've found similar issues with every non-Google alternative I've tried.

So my current method is to try Startpage first for most searches, but I still have to resort to Google for a lot of things. Images and site-specific searches (use these a lot for forums) are the two things I use on a daily basis that I haven't found a viable non-Google alternative for.

it recognized something i googled from my phone some time ago

so how do i get them off my back for good? or is there at least something to be done about it?
>>
The reason google is good is BECAUSE they don't respect your privacy to a large extent.

I love my botnet search engine unless I'm looking up politics becuase it overestimates how much of a bubble I want to put myself in.
>>
>>58262689
>so how do i get them off my back for good?
Don't use them or use a search engine that uses them by proxy
>>
>>58262689
>>58262708
There's a lot more to it than just using the Google search engine itself.

You also need to block as much tracking as possible at all times when using the internet. Static blocking with a lot of good filters to start with, of course, but beyond that something like uMatrix can do wonders if you're willing to put the work into unbreaking websites while allowing as little as possible to load. That doesn't help for phones and stuff though, I don't know shit about mobile stuff.
>>
>>58262689
>how do i get them off my back for good?

Stop using Google and Google-related products. Your Android tracking device is probably the #1 source for personal data collection for Google.

the reason searx is shit is because the UI is messy and it doesn't show youtube thumbnails

here's how the UI works
>search results
>pictures
>search results again
>videos
it's cancer
>>
>>58262083
Except for reverse image search, they fucked that all up. It used to work fantastic for finding series and what not based off of an image. Now it looks at the content of the image and never brings up the right result.
>>
>>58263654
>the reason searx is shit is because the UI is messy and it doesn't show youtube thumbnails
A small price to pay for a privacy respecting meta search engine. Still the best option.
>>
>>58263759
I don't suppose someone's got a way to generate custom thumbnails out there already?
>>
>>58262083
>remotely compete with google in terms good search results and performance?
this is the stupidest argument that's always brought up.
Just ditch google completely and never use it ever again, try ddg, startp or whatever but never use google ever again.

You'll find everything you need and nothing will change for your daily searchs.

don't trust me, just DO IT
>>
Google is still much better even when used without any associated profile.
>>
>>58263959
wrong, they still have to comply with millions of takedown requests a day. With a meta search engine you dont put all your eggs in one basket.
>>
>>58262105
https://yandex.com/legal/privacy/
>>
>>58262083
Go into Searx settings and make Google the only source. You do have a point if it's not just general search though.
>>
>>58262259
Google results are based on your previous search and your interests.
So yeah, searx is often worse than Google.
>>
>>58267497
they are not worse, they just arent tailored to you because there is no profile made about you.
>>
>>58262083
I just wish they didn't aggregate my data and share it with third parties.

I wonder how much I'd have to pay google to keep my information private and not serve me ads
>>
YaCy - decentralized P2P search, best for privacy
StartPage - Google proxy, best if you want Google-like results with less tracking

However, because Google uses your previous search history and browsing habits to build a profile about you by which to tailor their search results, no alternative can ever offer you the same results without using similar tactics. This is simply a sacrifice you have to make

Apparently it's about $10 per user on average.

W-would you pay google $10-20 to keep all the info google has on you private and not get served any ads?
>>
>>58267611
>paying the botnet
>trusting the botnet
>>
>>58267597
what do have against searx?
>>
>>58267650
Personally I think google's services are pretty good and if they want money for providing them that's fine by me desu. $10 a year isn't a lot for what I get from youtube and their search engine itself.
It's either that or they sell my info to the highest bidder.
>>
>>58267677
I hope you're a shill, although I wouldnt be surprised if people as retarded as you post on /g/
>>
>>58267740
Not a shill. Assuming one uses google and youtube, they're not just letting you do that out of charity; they're a business and they want to make money. They're going to make money off it regardless, either by selling you out to ad companies or just charging you for it.

If they offered me a legally enforceable agreement to keep my info private for a fee I'd consider it at least
>>
>>58267847
I cant tell you how to spend your money, but I still think your retarded.
>>
>>58267611
>paying a botnet not to do an illegal activity
that's like gently asking a mugger not to stab you
you're a fag
>>
>>58268467

Lol, what?
It's illegal for google to decide the terms of you interacting with their servers and websites?
How exactly, you fucking retard, is that illegal?
>>
>>58268517
>selling people's info to third parties is legal
hahah
>>
>>58268522
>literally the basis of nearly every free web service is illegal
*cough* bullshit
>>
This is so stupid.

1. You can go into your profile settings and view everything Google has on you and delete it if you so desire.
2. This data is mostly used for improved search results and making sure ads are relevant to you instead of shit you don't care about. This is advantageous to both you and the advertisers. This is a feature that literally makes your life better.
3. The data they share to other people is grouped with a bajillion other peoples' data and is never associated with you, making it entirely anonymous. Why would these companies even care about what a you in particular use the internet for? They're concerned with broad trends, not individuals.

It benefits you. It doesn't harm you. Why are people so obsessed with this?
>>
>>58267597
>>58264993
>>58263759
>>58262259
>>58262327
then how does someone improve his google-fu to compensate for the loss of good search results?
>>
>>58267611
I would pay double, but only if there was a way to ensure they are definitely not using my data for other purposes. Since there is not, no.
>>
>>58263094
>They use nginx so they must have a "SSL termination proxy" so they must be selling my data to companies

>>
>>58268535
I've been told here on /g/ some people are afraid that they would use your data against you eventually
like when you want to become president they tell everyone that you once googled "herpes cure"
that was literally an argument here on this exact board
>>
>>58268535

I just don't like Google's monopoly on everything it touches.

The opposite actually, because it's way too aggressive so you end up being unable to search for anything out of your more commonly searched domain.
