Debian stable with xfce is comfy. It just takes a fucking hour to configure xfce because the default panel, theme, keyboard shortcuts, etc... are garbage. Luckily you can configure just about everything

Personal preference. Check out arc and osx-arc-shadow themes with gnome. xfce, kde or budgie
