Why would you own any other non-ssd hard drive besides pic related?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why would you own any other non-ssd hard drive besides pic related?

There is literally no (0) reason.
>>
>>58241568
Because HGST's are superior.

They're loud
>>
Why would you own any HDD when SSDs are so cheap and being a hoarder is a mental illness?
>>
>>58241568
Because Black goes up to 6 TB only. What if I wanted 8? Or 10?
>>
>>58241568
Loud

So you're telling me that the noises are just normal?
How is that allowed, it sounds like it has a drill head instead of a magnetic head

this.

If you're lucky enough that they're available at all in the future :^)

this is why
>>

because brazen piles of shit are cheaper than high quality performance parts? lol
>>
>>58241725
It might be even more illegal to download them in the future and people might not even seed them more.

>>58241660
HDDs are dirt cheap too.
>>
>>58241732
I have too much entertainment available and too little time.
Archiving the secobd season of "anon is a dirty hoarder" is not among my priorities.

That is the reason.

I have two WD black 2 tb drives and both make a loud noise. Both of them are working just fine
>>
>>58241720
They have anti-vibration shit that makes lots of noise.

Its loud but amazing reliability.
>>
>>58241832

hdd failures are so fucking random that its better to buy two cheap ones and rund raid 1+1 on them.

>"le seagate are bad!!"
>"it will die in less than a week"
>mfw my seagate 1tb hdd is still working flawless after two years
>>
>>58241568
Because I have a WD Gold. Why would I want a black? Gold has the same if not higher performance and is just as obnoxiously loud.
>>
>>58246349
raids are for retards
>>
>>58241603
those 1b drives are amazing they are nigh indestructible

Have two of em one blue and one black. They are literally 4 and 5 years old and still fucking work.
>>
>>58241568
I own one, it just died. I am upset.

Am going with a last ditch attempt of getting a new pcb for it and transferring the ROM chip. Just to get stuff off of it.
>>
>Why would you own any other non-ssd hard drive besides pic related?

Because in my usage and experience Western Digital hard drives have a 72% failure rate.

Seagate? 12%?

Toshiba? 89%.

Fujitsu? 11%.

Samsung? 22%.

The best?

Hitachi/HGST with less than .5% failing and that includes an original IBM "Deathstar" 60GXP I still have purchased in 1999 and it has 2 bad sectors on it with 93K operating hours.

So fuck you, OP, fuck you very much indeed.
>>
>>58241568
wd and hgst 4 life
also the 4tb red comes in 5400 rpm, the 7200 rpm costs ALOT more.

>>58241606
The fucking hgsts I just bought are loud as shit, my wds are quiet.

>>58241776
leafs really are retarded.

>>58247937
You need to back up your data anon.
>>
>>58241568
>he doesn't use RAID
what are you doing on this board
>>
still have one of those 1 tb seagate freeagent drives from 2008.... works like a charm
>>
>>58248336
I have a 1tb wd black as well, loud but works quite well. Are the wd blues any good? Thinking about getting a 2 or 4tb drive but the wd blues available are mostly 5400rpm does that make a big difference? Or will it be negligible.
>>
>>58241568
HGST Ultrastar does the exact same thing and is cheaper.
>>
Superior HGST SAS-III drives with upwards of 15,000 RPM exist.
>>
why would you buy western digital? seriously?

seagate have 1tb platters
hgst have 1tb platters
western digital/toshiba/etc.. have 500gb platters

more platter=more risk of failure
>>
>>58250551
Who the fuck uses that trash? WD Blacks and Golds (AKA HGST Ultrastars) are horrendously noisy and bad enough. A 15k screamer is just a cherry on the top)

Completely pointless when it's out performed by a SSD and does not have meaningful performance increase over a 7200 RPM drive.
>>
>>58250669
You obviously have no experience with them, because they aren't loud at all except when they spin up at boot.

Also these are SAS drives, if you knew what that meant you could easily figure out who uses this "trash".
>>
>>58250817
I know who they are intended for, who the target customers are. I'm asking what the fuck kind of home user uses it? That's retarded.

They are even borderline retarded for servers. Why wouldn't you just use a solid state cache backed by 7200 RPM drives?
>>
>>58248336
>They are literally 4 and 5 years old and still fucking work
Faggot, I have IDE drives from the early 90's that still work. The fact that newer drives fail at all like they do is retarded.
>>
>>58250871
>I'm asking what the fuck kind of home user uses it? That's retarded.
Once you realize how cheaply these drives can be bought for, it doesn't seem as outlandish once you dive into RAID systems for home use. I do acknowledge though that their cost/performance benefit is non-existent outside this scenario however.

>They are even borderline retarded for servers
As someone who works with servers, this is incredibly wrong.
>>
>>58251020
Why? You're gaining negligible performance over say 10TB helioseal ultrastars/WD Golds at much higher price per GB. What is the benefit of paying more per GB?
>>
There's no reason not to buy only SSDs and hybrid drives. Backups are needed on any drive.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
