Is Chiclet really that bad?
I know Macs feel cheap and shallow, but I used a modern ThinkPad yesterday and it felt more solid than the classic keys. What do you think?
The chiclet keys don't feel anywhere near as good as classic ThinkPads do, but they are still vastly superior to other keyboards.

Is it possible to use a old keyboard on it? seems to be similarly sized. are the connections very different?

it's the layout that's shitty

Agreed there, I like a full function row.

If memory serves me I believe on models like the T530+ and T430+ you can, but you have to remap them with software after installation

They feel solid and clicky on ThinkPads, but Dell HP, and Apple are a shit.
Didn't they make some kind of near-mechanical clicky keyboard for the old T60s?

No, it's still a scissor switch. You have to go back to the 90s for buckling rubber dome keyboards in ThinkPads.
The reason why the newer keyboards feel more solid is because they are now attached directly on to the rollcage which eliminates the flex that was often seen in 2008-2012 TPs.

Only on W230/X230/T430/T530, you can install the palm rests of previous models also and then everything fits perfectly.
After -30 they changed the shape and mounting points of the keyboard so it's no longer possible.
Remember Cherry keyboards?
Damn, man. THOSE were keyboards.
Who are the retards that decide which keyboard layout will best get the young kid demographic or whatever it is executives are after?
I don't understand why the fuck with layouts so much. It just seems so arbitrary.

Caught my old boss throwing one out and asked for it, he thought it was some old junk. So damn solid

If my memory serves me right, they did it because they wanted to "streamline" the design language of the thinkpad line and make it more like a macbook.
My X250's keyboard perfectly fine. Not as cushy as the old ones, but I feel a bit faster on it.
