Any recommendations for a rubber strap on an SKX? I like the look of the Isofrane ones but they are a little pricey.

is there anything like the 5227 in the sub ~300$ range?

i dont understand why it's so hard to find a something similiar, it's not like it's a complicated design, it's perfectly done and simple. but it seems everything affordable in this style seems to fuck up something so simple in one way or another. I just want something with this dial.

well ok let me explain the design elements i like about this dial

- I like no numerals, and bonus points if the 12 is just another numeral and not accentuated like a double hash
- date window is unimportant, don't care either way
- not too much garbage on the dial, i really don't need to see water resistance, automatic, etc
- sub minute markers are fine

pic related is the one I've liked the most (sarb 072 or sarb 033) but the sub-sub minute markers really bother me, as does the "23 jews" on the dial. like these both are completely unnecessary to me
>>
>>58220037
looks like you will just have to bite the bullet on the patek

a brushed stainless steel bracelet in oyster, engineer or shark mesh is fairly masculine.

There are less overtly masculine bracelets like the jubilee but it is not necessarily feminine.

You shouldn't base your decisions on some fuckwits opinion about sexual orientation of links of metal

>- sub minute markers
>sub-sub minute markers
So when you say "sub minute" markers you mean minute markers, and when you say "sub sub minute" you mean seconds, right?

You'll have to keep looking. A distinct 12 o'clock marker helps orient you in the absence of a date window though.

There's a lot of vintage watches that may be similar. They might say "automatic" or "precision" or the number of jewels, instead of "Geneve" like the PP does.

>>58220067
Goofballs. You can make a bracelet for either sex.

So, /wt/, is the Jaeger LeCoultre Geophysic True Second the ultimate aggressively contrarian piece of haute horlogerie?

I actually find this complication charming as hell, especially for the venom it appears to inspire by the desperately aspirational horrified at the thought that others might not realize how much they spent on a watch.

it's not the end of the world if it is accentuated but i'd prefer it without. i can deal with either or.

yeah.

is it possible to change a chapter ring (on the sarb033)? like if I open it up is it going to be a dial with a seperate and removable chapter ring? or is the dial just one piece folded up at the perimeter to form a chapter ring, meaning you can't replace it

Some people have never enjoyed a quality bracelet. It's probably some subconscious association of all bracelets with the more gaudy two-tone and diamond encrusted ones.

Not the kind of people you want to listen to about watches.

Metal bands on a watch? Shit, most fellas I know have metal bands on their watches. And they are career faggots. That is some way of them recognizing themselves when in large company. Oyster ones are for king faggots. They represent rank. There are other rules about color ( rose gold likes taking it up the ass, and prolapse play ) for example.... I will have to ask bkut the lkst of rules and post here...

I use their services sometimes. As you might understand.

But they say metal bands are for fags.

Seiko is one of the brands that will actually put nothing but their name on the top of the dial, but then they'll put stuff on the bottom.

I wore a mechanical Seiko for years because I thought I was supposed to

It was uncomfortable and heavy. Now I wear this 24/7 and forget it's there until I check the time or need a timer or stopwatch

My Seiko lost 30 seconds or more a month, this loses less than 5

ETA movements continue to remain the most popular ébauche movements in the world. Under their new directive from the Swiss government, ETA is allowed to reduce its supply to competitors by 30 percent in 2014-2015, 50 percent in 2016-2017 and by 70 percent by 2018-2019.

It is widely known that ETA is hopeful that by 2023, it will have the ability to choose who it offers its supply to and will be able to restrict sales to certain competitors it does not wish to support.

GS divers are way too big. I'm not a fan of GMT watches but if that's more comfortable than the diver I'd make that trade. Orient diver is something you can actually wear as a beater, so that's a plus.

I got an Isofrane knockoff from Borealis because I really liked the style. After reading about the alternatives, it seemed the Borealis one was the best option if you don't want to spend more than the price of your watch on a strap... And also have a small wrist. The ones from Obris Morgan are also good apparently, and available in more colours, but they can't accomodate a wrist under 7".

And while I can't compare to an actual Isofrane, it feels quite good on the wrist. It seems really solid so far. Would buy again.

man on the moon is the one that went there.

321 movement or whatever the modern handwind only movement is now, since it is based on the 321 I believe

Hesilite crystal, Speedmaster Professional.

That's the First Omega in Space, which commemorates the first Nasa approved Omega to be worn on an astronaut mission, which was not to the moon.

As far as I know "Man on the Moon" is a community given name, not marked by Omega, and references a specific version of the Speedmaster Professional

Thinking about picking up an Seiko SRP703, seems like a relatively low cost watch that looks quite nice. Thoughts? Open to better suggestions, things I'm looking for

>Black/dark navy blue dial
>Metal braclet
>Simple face
>Not too thick

I will be wearing it every day, I had a leather band watch and have gone through 2 bands in the past year because they fell apart from use.

What am I getting myself into with and automatic watch? As an every day watch I assume it will have enough movement to keep time?

Is there anything else to be aware of or think about? I'm new to watches

Thanks!

I had the limited edition blue version (SRPA29) of this watch for a while until it got sold.

The 4R35 movement is solid overall, and the aesthetically design is classic Seiko.

It has one big issue, it's too damn big for the case style and lugs. It's extremely uncomfortable to wear, even on my wrist which easily accommodates a Monster. The folded link bracelet is trash as well.

Get a SARB033 instead, better in every way.

My main concern with getting a SARB is the $100 price increase, which does make a difference to a broke ass uni student, cause I don't know if something will come up in a week and suddenly disposable income is gone

>>58222660
Thanks for the info, not too sure what you mean about too big? I'm currently wearing a Fossil AM4514 (my grandad gave it to me, so I didn't complain, no he's not dead yet and he said it was a crap watch himself so I've no grievances buying a new one) and its 44mm which looks fine on my hand (big hands) and the 703 is 42mm?

I'm moderately built although slim so I thought that the thinner bezels would look a little better on my wrists.

Although if the watch really is that uncomfortable and the bracelet is shitty I'll go a different route.

>>58222698
That puts my concerns about timekeeping at rest thanks

>>58222920
True, although I really like the look of leather straps, I'd prefer not to have something that is susecptiable to solvents/oil(the antileather hydrocarbon variants)/water. Essentially I don't want an everyday watch that I have to be super careful with before getting my hands dirty. In the future once, I finish my degree, I'd be entirely open to getting a really nice dress watch with a leather strap. If you catch my meaning
>>

>I'm moderately built although slim so I thought that the thinner bezels would look a little better on my wrists.

It all depends on the wrist circumference really.

The issue isn't with the insert, but the bezel itself. I'm basically in love with both smooth bezels, and bezels with actual grippable edges.

But smooth bezels have no grip, ratchet nor indicator, they look great but provide no function. Now I could add some lume dot and knurl the edges, but still it wouldn't ratchet. Meanwhile, there is no decent grippable bezel with a decent gear/crenel edge, only flat as fuck coin edge bezels like those on stock SKX. There are a few good ones though, but they're XBOXHUEG with cringeworthy stylized shark teeth.

I'm genuinely considering having one custom made desu.

You have that exactly backwards: It's the people who buy watches based on how much "prestige" they expect the watch to accord them doing the fedora tipping imitation.
>>
>>58225944
Nah dude, SKX are great, but then it doesn't really make sense to pick a SKX and a turtle, I mean it's almost the same watch, and you're certainly not going to be wearing the two.

The SKX is just the basic, average dive watch, nothing exceptional about it, but it's a solid one still. It can be easily customized, there are countless parts available, and it fits on any strap and bracelet, unlike more original watches which are more limited in customization and choice of straps.
>>
>>58225960
>it's not that great a watch
I agree to some extent, but some part of me still wants one.

Hey /wt/
OK so I'm looking for an automatic watch with a visible movement on the behind of the case.
It should be around £100 max £150 and have a butterfly clasp bracelet strap. The dial should be fairly minimal. I was lookin at seiko sarbs but they b too expensive. I'm open to suggestions.
>>
>>58222840

Seiko 5, yep.
>>
>>58225944
I have a pepsi skx and a blue turtle and generally like the skx more. I like the case better, and think the hands and dial have more character. The Turtle though does have the perks of a better movement, and I still love them both.

so a bracelet or a leather strap or what?
>>
>>58226102
>butterfly clasp bracelet strap
>I was lookin at seiko sarbs

You're really confusing yourself. The SARB has a two button milled clasp.

Just look for a Seiko 5, Seiko 5 sports, Orient Symphony, various other new Orient models with a display caseback, new Citizen automatic's like the NP4040-54A/NP4040-54E or other new Citizen models.

>>58226191
More or less where i was going to.

I'll see how it turns out, as for now i'm still collecting the funds.
>>
>>58226102
I'd honestly not go for something on a bracelet at that price point. The cheaper bracelets are made either entirely or partially of hollow links and feel terribly cheap.
The sarbs are honestly the cheapest you can go while still having a decent quality bracelet, and the only complaints about the watch I have seen still pertain to that bracelet.

You can still buy something cheap on a bracelet, but be prepared for disappointment and feeling obliged to replace it with a leather band or nato. Seiko 5's are nice.
>>
>>58226102

If you decide on a Seiko 5, they're currently 40% off on Amazon.

I'm in the market for a watch. Current one I own is a cheap (I think?) Lorus, 15 years old. It's automatic and the dial looks okay but that's all it's got going for it really. The finish is peeled as fuck.

I'm looking for something simple, practical and minimal. Automatic. Black. Keeps good time. Not fussed about date windows unless it can account for month length. Budget £150 but could stretch to £200 if worth it.

I wear jeans/t-shirts/hoodies pretty much exclusively so I figure a NATO strap would be best.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'm probably mistaken - it's kinetically powered, which I assumed was specific to automatics.

>what do you think about an snk809?
I've been looking at the snk809 and looks wise I really like it but there seem to be a lot of complaints about losing time (20+ seconds per day).

>>
>>58221032
By then the escape wheel, pallet, balance wheel and hairspring will all be defined by lithography and made by dry etching ceramic materials.

They are getting there: http://www.woundforlife.com/2014/05/07/technical-notes-baselworld-2014-escapement-news/
>>
>>58226820
They're pretty much the same price as most leather straps, from $30 to $80 depending on quality and style. Stingray leather appearance can vary quite wildly, it's mostly about the pearly patterns on it which are quite random, and the price reflects that.
>>
>>58225917
So it the modern day equivalent of this, without the handyness of wearing it on your wrist, and you think that's cool?
>>
>>58226699
>it's kinetically powered, which I assumed was specific to automatics
Nope, it's a quartz movement, but with a rotor charging the battery.

the 7s26 movement in the snk isn't regulated and can be quite inaccurate out of the box yes. most of them won't be that bad, but if you're unlucky, +20s/day is within parameters unfortunately. this can be solved by regulating the movement, but it's not that simple to do yourself, and not that cheap to have done by a watchmaker.

the dial of the SNK809 is (very close to) a Type B Flieger, they were old German pilot's watches. There are many on sale, but a lot of them are much bigger than the Seiko, some of them ridiculously big.
The "field watch" style is also quite close to that.

I don't know alternatives to it that are priced under the Hamilton Khaki, and that is over your budget...
>>
>>>58214087
Hamilton khaki field is the perfect field watch, although I'd recommend a SNK809 for starters: it's cheap so u wont be sad if u break it, and U will learn a ton about autos.

I broke mine by dropping it, but im not sad since ive then started a collection and I have multiple watches.

>>
>>58231734

>>
>>58231758
Yes, because plebs on /g/ have the ability to blow 20k+ on a single wristwatch. Companies are definitely looking to advertise to a group that loathes being marketed towards. How retarded are you?
>>
>>58225709

Red shit colors disappear and everything starts looking gray the further down you go. A red bezel is a dead giveaway that the watch is designed for posers.

I'm OK with Seiko products because their higher end watches are designed pretty nicely without a pompous over-inflated price tag, but if you ever want to impress a woman by pretending you dive, don't wear a watch with yellow, oranges, or reds.
>>
>>58226808

Looks tacky as fuck. That texture looks so hideous that it would look right at home as a vinyl purse marketed to ghetto negresses with no taste.

You think this is your super sekret club that no one knows about? You honestly believe it's outside of the realm of possibility for some trust fund SoCal douchebag to ever browse 4chan?

You confuse me anon, I keep hearing that 4chan is flooded with "normalfags" ever since 2008 and yet I'm also supposed to believe that everyone on 4chan is just an unemployed basement autist.

But don't get fooled, the most efficient movements only need 21-24 jewels to be astoundingly accurate. Anything more than that is just showy excess to sucker you out of money, and even luxury watches use movements with synthetic jewels.

If you think some independent french watch autist who lives in the swiss alps, whose lowest priced watch comes at 20k USD, has time or desire to shill his watches on this anonymous Polynesian wood carving exchange site, then you must be geniunely stupid.

Complications are one thing, but when you see some gaudy $2,400 watch with an hour hand, a minute hand, and lines instead of numbers on a dial that cost them 2 cents for some Taiwanese 6 year old to manufacture, you know you're being taken for a ride. All I'm saying is know what you're buying so you don't get ripped off, if you can't agree with that, you're a fool.

And really, anon, how many jewels do you need to accurately move a day and date dial that only moves once every 24 hours?

Is there more places to read up on watch redpills? That's mostly it, since all the blogs are paid shills and most of he forums are hugboxes (though the Stowa, TAG and Panerai scandals did all have big WUS threads).

It's actually quite scary, but a thread full of sperging autists on /g/ is pretty much the best place to talk about watches on the internet.

You clearly lack reading comprehension because I've yet to find any sites that give actual critical reviews. That's the good thing about 4chan, doesn't pull any punches, but maybe I'm too deep in /wt/ autism and I shouldn't believe what I see here, but I prefer to err on the pessimistic side.

Well /wtg/, I bought $100 of watch repair stuff. Will be taking apart and oiling a Chinese movement. Stauer.

Everyone's telling me not to. I'll probably foobar this $60 watch I got for free, but will learn a lot and will hopefully be able to oil my next one.

Feel free call me a faggot or whatever. I like learning about things by taking them apart. Enough info exists on line.

Wish me luck!
