there's a growing trend of not having 2 DVI ports
is there any setback with using a DisplayPort adapter to cover the 2nd and 3rd monitors?

Depends on the monitor no? If you have a Free/G Sync wouldn't you want to use HDMI 2?

DisplayPort would require an active adapter. HDMI's the better choice, I got my HDMI to DVI cable for $2.50.

What do you mean active adapter?
I got s /csg/ display port to HDMI adapter of Amazon for like $5.
It works OK, I don't know if it's caused my the adapter, a failing monitor, or the igpu or motherboard.. but my screen Black's or a few times a night
It's just a thing that plugs into the display port, it doesn't have any other io besides do in and HDMI out

An active adapter means it needs to convert the signal, as DVI and DisplayPort are incompatible. It will work, but it adds lag. An HDMI to DVI adapter on the other hand is passive, meaning that the signal needs no conversion and all an adapter is is an HDMI connector connected to a DVI connector.

FreeSync can work over HDMI (there's also unofficial mods that might make it work over DVI), but you gotta have a monitor that supports it over HDMI. Otherwise, G-SYNC mandates DisplayPort, and for most purposes FreeSync as well.

OK cool. I misread what you said and thought you said am HDMI one needs to be active
