anyway I suspect it's dead for the same reason the the Year of the Linux Desktop never arrived. Normies don't change their OS, if they even know what an OS is, they use whatever their device comes with. And device-makers don't really have an incentive to use something that isn't android. They do have an incentive to use android, too, since most of their customers know it and want apps that run on it. And the bloatware that other companies pay them to install runs on android.

I hoped it would catch on, but sadly it was released on terrible devices. Android is free of charge anyway and has a too large user base, it's too strong of a competitor. Apple is bought by people who want to think better about themselves for owning a certain pricy brand, so it's users wouldn't move to anything other than latest iOS.
Ubuntu phone also had a terrible UI design, which is why I never bought it. It would be amazing if we could use GNU/Linux on smartphones. There's already Facebook messenger for Linux so normies would be all good. And having desktop apps running on phones as well would be great.
