No, most likely it will not.

>active hours
Why is this cancer allowed?
>>
>>58176313
It makes sense normie-wise.
MS doesn't have to deal with bullshit related to people not updating

people cry about windows 10 shutting down their pcs because they're too retarded to set up active hours, during which windows will NOT restart automatically.

you can even set the hours after the update is about to restart, and it'll still trigger the postponed update after active hours or when you tell it to.

It's a shame you can't force Windows to only update let's say at 4 am, but otherwise the system is only flawed because it won't let you be active for more than 12h
>>
>>58176298
>right now 3:30 AM tomorrow looks good
If you don't migrate from windows, you're just helping this monster grow. They won't stop doing retarded shit like this unless the users who are revolted by it actually quit using windows.
>>
>>58176352
I actually don't use it as my main OS per se. Windows is horrible for users.
>>
>>58176332
It makes sense to force normies to actually update shared libraries and whatnot, but it makes very little sense not to have an option to disable that shit.

Normies would've fucked up their Windows installations anyways by downloading song.mp3.exe, so it's not like they'll be smart enough to find that option at the corner of their screens.

For one that's a new feature introduced with the anniversary update. For two it has a very limited range of hours. And finally some people have their PCs do tasks that take more than 1 day.
>>
You can disable automatic updates entirely if you were actually smart. The reason it does this is because idiots (like you), will just keep postponing updates, a lot of which are security patches, then start crying about windows viruses when they click something stupid. Or people who never update for months/years, then get mad when they can't use their computer for a few hours when they finally click accept to download/install everything
>>
I once had a Windoze Semen machine fucked up an expensive scientific experiment left overnight because it decided to update and reboot. After that I disabled updates on all of them. Yeah, you could disable updates on (((your))) computer these days.

You can disable windows update auto restart. Ive done it.
Launch the registry editor

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

If you don’t have the AU key, create it in the WindowsUpdate.

Create a new DWORD-32 value.

Name it NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers

If you're using Home you're basically telling MS you're computer illiterate and don't care about it, as such they push the updates down your throat to avoid having you do completely retarded shit such as ignoring security updates, because that can be detrimental to other people and not just to yourself. If you're using Pro there's an easy to access, built-in GUI that actually lets you control the update process, including not updating at all unless you manually trigger it and completely disabling automated restarts.

If you thought the "Pro" version was actually for professionals, as in businesses to use, you were wrong. The version for business use is called Enterprise.

Even with Linux you don't have to put up with this much shit. Windows 10 is objectively worse than it's competitors (Mac and popular Linux distributions) and it's also worse than it's predecessor. It's sad that the only normie friendly operating systems are either the expensive MacOS and the not well known GNU/Linux and normies don't know how to change to those.

A free software operating system is better, if windows was free software you could modify it to disable the malicious functionality you are encountering.

I've spent hours tinkering with settings and manually disabling everything from the built in telemetry to any form of automatic updates and prefetch/superfetching, and the thing is still barely stable enough for me to leave it on for more than 2 days at a time before hitting performance issues and shutting it down, forcefully by holding down the power button, might I add.

More than half the time I try to shutdown via gui, it fails to do so altogether and simply doesn't do anything, or will for some reason delay the shutdown for 10+ minutes. Even forcing a shutdown via command prompt fails often. For fucks sake, I even run into issues with permissions as the fucking admin of the system and no prompts to override the already overseeing permissions I've granted myself.

I'm just biding my time until I get angry enough to drop everything onto my hdd and revert to W7.

I'm in no way I freetard, and I had no big issues using whatever windows version I had to run at work, until ten came around.

How could they fuck up updates so bad?

Half of the time, something breaks, and the other half of the time it updates while it is in standby, closing down every open program and killing all unsaved work. And yeah, I know, just save stuff, but there are some things that take a quarter of an hour to save, so you can't just save shit every five minutes. Also, having dozens of things open takes a lot of time to restore.

So we decided that the risk that we loose stuff due to catching a virus was lower and if it occured, cheaper than the guaranteed loss due to windows being an idiot and switched off updates completely.

How on earth is it acceptable in 2016 that an OS that you can't update is the standard OS for work?

I fear for the company I work at... Higher ups want to upgrade all user oriented systems from Windows 7 to Windows 10 in 2017.

These are also the higher ups that my boss has spent 2 months now repeatedly requesting a port be opened for a S&R program so that we don't have to deal with the shitty proxy they forced us to take on. We have to manually switch the dude over to our unauthorized network almost daily in the meantime.
>>
Do some research before you switch to 7, some pretty new hardware is actually locked down so you can only run Windows 8 and/or 10. I believe only certain Intel CPUs and motherboards but I would look into it first
>>
>>58176332
Wouldn't it have made more sense to just never do this shit in the first place and make normies learn to manually do updates themselves?

Installing and setting up anti-virus is far more complicated but normies are capable of knowing it needs to be done and doing it themselves.

It shouldn't be the job of the OS developers to babysit the users anyway, if the users machine becomes vulnerable due to their own negligence then it's not Microsoft's problem. When I buy a house the construction crew doesn't pay me a visit every night to make sure all my doors are locked, it's my own responsibility.

New CPUs are made incompatible with 7.

Microsoft kinda ""made"" them do it
>>
yes or no
is there a way to make it it so windows 8 or windows 10 do not automatically update? A way to turn them off, or delay them for the next 10 years?
I like 7. I've had updates turned off since installing it and had no issues, I feel in control of my computer.
I'll use Linux if I have to, but I really don't like how games don't work on it.

Consider it's an egg-chicken problem, the only way to change the situation is showing there's demand for games on Linux and to increase the marketshare, otherwise the developers will hardly care about either porting, optimizing and to choose multi-platform technologies from the start of the development. It was proved recently the doom 2016 game performs the same on linux using vulkan even considering it runs over wine.

did you need to modify the registry?
in my case in a VM with the LTSB version, i modified/removed:
-services;
-event viewer;
-setting and control panel;
-task scheduler.

sadly i cant disable the search, the anti-virus.

comparing to w8.1, w10 takes a loot of time to remove most of the crap (1 hour at the best), when w8.1 takes 10 minutes (my current OS).

I literally just installed my Windows 7 again instead of getting a Windows 10.

I don't even know if I can get it for free anymore.

After Windows 8 I'll just stick to Windows 7 and maybe switch to Games Online Windows 7 + Everyday Use Debian, with W7 running on a seamless Virtual machine if I get it to work.

The only downside is that I'll have to buy a better MOBO to be able to have two GPUs at the same time.

It already updates most of the stuff without restarting. Restarts are only required to update the system files that are always in use.

You can always disable the windows update service completely and re-enable it when you want to update.

Not that I'm defending microsoft though, having to go through workarounds like this just to get rid of forced updates is retarted.

That's because they're retarded children who don't even know how to install an operating system. This retard right here >>58185562 is an obvious winshill who doesn't know how to do anything on his PC except install games and play them and thinks he's cool for installing spybot anti-beacon and shut up 10. Majority of Linux distributions (example, Ubuntu, or anything based on Ubuntu) are more usable than Windows out of the box and take less time to install, because, unlike Windows, they actually have drivers included into the system and unless you use some obscure or tertiary hardware you won't have any problems (the "no drivers on Linux" is a meme made by unhappy consumers who installed Arch or gentoo because /g/ told them to). You have your "Facebook machine" immediately after installing, unless you want to install the Facebook messenger as well which takes literally a minute. Look at this post here >>58182095
I've used Windows for a long time before I've tried MacOS and Linux. It's surprising how better and more stable they are than Windows. I no longer see the reason for Windows existence.
