Want something that'd be portable for bringing outside and when I won't be at home for a while, without much sound leakage if any. Should preferably have detachable cables/folding capabilities, and actually stand a small beating if it comes down to it.

Would prefer some major brand like AKG or Audio-Technica since they're relatively easy to find, but beggars can't be choosers I guess.

What's with all this Sennheiser hate?

Yet none of these people calling Sennheiser shit can say why they're shit. The two reasons mentioned are strong clamping force (in my opinion that's not true, maybe they have a weak head) and that the band breaks after months of "normal use" (again, don't see how this can happen unless you throw them around).

No, It's not a meme. It's a good DIY amp. That said, your friend is a fucking retard.
800's /can/ benefit from a tube to flatten that peak in the highs, but there are SS amps that can give a similar effect, if not just straight EQ.
600's/650's can play into tubes well, but again, there are plenty of SS amps that give a similar experience, or EQ.

>>
>>58164795
>800's /can/ benefit from a tube to flatten that peak in the highs
Do explain how an amplifier without a specialized circuitry to equalize on the range of frequencies where HD 800 has resonance(s) is going to "smooth" it out? Moreover, how are tubes related to any of this?

Tubes are often a warmer, more coloured sound. Sometimes manifesting in rolled off/relaxed highs.

I'm not an electrical engineer, I've just used a lot of tube amps. It's a fairly common agreement. I have no idea how they work.

>It's a fairly common agreement.
Yeah and I cannot fathom where this comes from, other than people making a stupid comparison between a guitar amplifiers designed to clip and distort in "pleasant" ways and a Hi-Fi amplifier which never should.

Ever seen a measurement of a tube amplifier? Basic frequency response? Some distortion plots? In the case the tube amp isn't absolute dogshit, they tend to be extremely flat. Ones with an output transformer tend to roll off on both ends of the pass band which makes them neither bright or warm and doesn't effect anything in-between. They tend to be unstable into low impedance loads but that won't have an effect on headphones like HD 800 either. Distortion, if audible, can make them sound bright, warm or just shit. Mostly just shit.

I wouldn't trust my ears on auditioning amplifiers.

dt880 or dt770

dt880 is open, which means you'll feel like sound isn't in a small area but more like in the room you're in, some people (including me) find this really important and think it adds a lot to the quality of sound.

DT770 has a stronger V-Shape and is cheaper, aka bass will be punchier and treble will also be stronger

Both are super comfortable and both will suit you well.

Even without 'proper' amp/dac better headphones will sound better on your stock thing. Some headphones may not be loud enough out of iPad and some notebooks like some of the low sensitive AKG but here is this. With macbookpro as a source my 300 ohm HD600 were a HUGE improvement in sound over HD598, HD600 sound better with nice amp, but they still sound better than HD598 from my macpro.

Amazon says it ships to albania, though at a different thing two years ago it said it only shipped things like cds/books/etc.,plebbit says it ships to albania

I double checked using some addon ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/does-amazon-ship-to/ )
to make sure and it seems it does have some vendors that ship to albania. (red is second hand, not sure if you want those)

.co.uk has one for 132 (I assume pounds), .de has one for 143 (I assume euro)
I'd check .it as well but the addon only works in .com, .co.uk, .fr & .de

that being said, if you checked the specific ones it shows with a checkmark and they still don't ship to albania, give some albanian/greek electronic store sites so we can check if there's any we recognize

I checked google but the only store I could find was mediamarkt

I'm new to headphones/audio stuff and a bit confused about how DACs and amps work.

I get that amps will amplify sound, but do they also do something to make headphones sound better, not just louder?

And if DACs are built into everything, and their role is to turn audio from digital signals into analog signals, how different can one really be from another? Does an external DAC really produce better sound than the built-in DAC on your sound chip?

I have BOHM-B66 headphones which are quite good with bluetooth and have noise cancelling abilities. Has 3.5 mm capability, comes with a detachable cable that has a built in microphone.
>>
>>58166303
good ones don't alter the audio
bad ones/tube amps do alter the audio

if the headphones need more power to work normally, they will alter the audio since the audio is already distorted due to not getting enough power from your motherboard/whatever

We live in CURRENT YEAR, if people can skimp on something and get away with it, they will, as such dacs are often using horrible components.

A DAC is nice to have but it's not a necessity, if it was a necessity you'd know it was a necessity and you wouldn't be contemplating the usefulness of them
>>
>>58166303
>I get that amps will amplify sound, but do they also do something to make headphones sound better, not just louder?
Headphones can often have weird 'shifts' in resistance at different frequencies. Amps often help deal with that on harder to drive headphones.
Motherboard sound can potentially distort at higher volumes too, or just have by default high distortion.

A good amp changes the audio as little as possible.

>And if DACs are built into everything, and their role is to turn audio from digital signals into analog signals, how different can one really be from another?
Cheaper DACs use less sophisticated methods of signal processing, purely because it is cheaper to manufacture.

>Does an external DAC really produce better sound than the built-in DAC on your sound chip?
Not inherently, but it is typically the case. They usually use better DAC chips with better implementations, but also reduce external noise that is usually picked up from other computer components.

662 EVO will be the most comfortable. Will isolate decently. Best sounding too
Tascam TH02-B will be the most isolating, but will be uncomfortable as shit without new pads.
M20x will be quite uncomfortable, but will isolate decently. You'd need new pads, but after you get pads, it'd both be fairly comfortable, and isolate fairly well.

I don't usually do headphones but there's a general here so I figured I'd ask.

My dad bought me Sennheiser HD800's for Christmas and they sound like shit. I Googled them and they are pretty expensive so I'm thinking maybe I've got them set up wrong or something, is there anything I need to do in my windows audio settings to make them sound right? Are Sennheiser actually a good make of headphones or are they like Dre where they just make expensive shit and people say they are good because of the price?
>>
>>58168386
>>58168303
guess I was wrong, looked at some reviews & people say that, indeed, the K7XX are a bassier version and the K712 have a small edge in treble quality

Apparently the K712 is also made in austria, not chinkland
actually nevermind, they seem to have moved K712 construction to... slovakia for some reason?

>>58168438
you'll most likely need an amp if you don't have one
Alternatively, even though they're good headphones, you might not like their sound signature, which is far more important than the sound quality.
If you like V shaped sound signature, a 100$ V shaped headphone will sound much better to you than a top of the line neutral headphone of 1000-1500$

V shape means that bass (lows) and treble (highs) are accentuated, which makes a V shape on the equalizer. It doesn't necessarily mean that mids are recessed though but probably overpowered.

You can try it out yourself with any equalizer.

V shaped is described as "fun"

I have a question. I've been usiing my K712s like this for about 10 days. I still have 20 days to return these to thomann. I can't handle the treble spike on these, hence the high shelf, and was wondering if I should return them and get the HD650s instead? I know they have a rolled off treble which is good for my ears mainly after the 7KHz mark but I've read many times that the bass extends much less and is slower but has a bigger punch on the mid bass. I have nothing to complain about the bass on the 712s, it's fantastic for literally any kind of eletronic music

What do?

I've had a pair of AKG K550's for over a year now, still work fine. They're great for movies and games because of the giant fucking earpads, and also work great with music. You can EQ the bass a bit, and you probably should.
The only downside is fixed cable but I've found it's pretty sturdy. Not sure if 3 years sturdy but I'm nearing a year and a half and still works. The earpads on the other hand will need to be replaced, but brainwavz shit are cheap and good.
>>
>>58170046

>>
>>58170064

so I would need HM5 pads?
>>
>>58170069

>>
>>58170113
There's the K550 mkii and the K553 pro. I don't know much about these, I own the og version.
I think they fixed the treble, which does get a bit harsh at high volumes, as well as more bass added.
As far as I know the K550 mkii are America and K553 Pro are europe, but they're the exact same improved version of the 550's. Get these if you can.
The mkii were on sale for 90 bucks recently.
You don't need earpads, the ones they come with are amazing, but I read they degrade over time faster than the average. Mine haven't, but I've read about a lot that did.

>>58170120
yeah you'll want V shaped like I guessed
for closed, get DT770
for open, maybe have a look at K612, it's not that bassy, but it has a decent boost. You might not be able to drive it if you have a cheap motherboard & no sound card/amp though

If you want to be a real big boy get a DT880 with a VModa boompro instead of a modmic, it's a boom mic that replaces your headphone's wire. But because it plugs into your headphones, it only works on headphones with a detachable cable. The advantage of this is that you don't have to mess around with a second wire

IIRC K240 Mark II has a detachable cable as well so it should work with that as well

>>58170147
K553 is US exclusive & is better
K550 is basically not worth it in any scenario, but the K553 is a decent contender with MSR7 especially since the MSR7 seems to be 50$ more expensive in US

I never had my own wide sound stage before so I'm looking for the best I can get for my price range. I'm not exactly sure how to accurately explain my choice of sound signature so I will do my best. Bass is important - but no more or less important than the mids and highs. Bass that sounds weak or inaccurate is a let down but at the same time - bass that disrupt the quality of the mids and the highs is also a let down. I guess I'm looking for a very very good neutral sound.

Is software EQ the same as hardware EQ?
My Fiio Q1 has a bass boost that apparently boost the bass by about 6db and slowly lowers until it raches around 400hz at which point it goes flat again. Pic related
Can I achieve the same result using a software EQ or the built in EQ on my music player?
>>
>>58169700
Thanks dude.
>>
>>58172722
>software EQ the same as hardware EQ
No.
Digital filters operate within an idealized space of signals theory, given processing constraints. Electrical filters are forced to compromise with physical properties, some of which noticeably limit filter flexibility, add unwanted distortion and the like.

>Can I achieve the same result using a software EQ
You could do that and more, but that requires your EQ of choice to be flexible.
Windows users have Equalizer APO, other platforms will require more work.

For raw sound the Sabre 9018 DAC will be the best

For features, the Origen will be the best.

I personally run the hifimediy 9018 [spidf version] and a DIY O2. Lacks functionality, but it works fantastically, and powers anything I throw at it. Don't even feel the need to upgrade to something like a schiit stack. Next jump might be a Jotunheim or a one of the various NFB's.

Origen won't sound /quite/ as good, but you'll have a lot better of a form factor, and actual features.

Nothing wrong with listening FLACs if you are downloading and storing them. But making the leap to claim there are audible differences between a well encoded lossy codec(such as mp3 v0 with the new LAME encoders) and lossless is another question entirely. FLAC is a great codec, lossless has its uses but somehow people manage to misunderstand its purpose and make stupid claims about it. Making a thread about FLAC is guaranteed replies.

hd600 + amp isn't in your price range, hd600 without an amp is going to be suffering

Depends on the capabilities of the device acting as an amplifier.

>Comfort level
Comfortable. Good noise isolation is important to feel comfortable. It is the main reason I want to buy something new. I don't want to hear the pricks I live with and the neighbours.

>Sound signature
Not sure what to say here. I want to use it mostly for watching TV series and playing games. I do listen to music, but just as a background, I don't need some superb quality.

>Past headphones
Shit

Also it is importable if it has a detachable capable. Bluetooth not required.

The 750NAs seem to be $150. Not really sure what the difference is between models with different letters after the 750, I guess I'll start looking into that.

I wish I knew an actual deal site on jp like slickdeals, kakaku doesn't seem to help unless you know what you're after.

If the spell checker doesn't go red I usually don't notice is.

Seems like this is a pair that can be bought easily from here and the price is just converted, so basically the same. Can you tell me more about the noise isolation? And what exactly you consider not ideal, the isolation or the sound and what about it.

The NA seems to be the digital noise cancelling version opposed to just normal noise cancelling
