The 950m might be the issue since 16.04 uses kernel 4.4. I believe this is not as much of an issue with newer kernels.
See if adding nomodeset=0 or nouveau.modeset=0 to the boot parameters in grub works.

used to have this issue as well. does it have nvidia graphics? if it does, go into bios/uefi and disable the intel integrated graphics. then try again

Couldnt do it either with my asus laptop, installing worked though.
