Computers were sold in 2004, they featured a DVD burner and flash player because they could do both, and retarded webdevs made entire websites in flash.
Not being able to play that stuff smoothly on a relatively recent computer is a result of adobe bloating it up and/or video players adding more "features" (like initial versions of youtube's DASH).
