Hello, /g/, just picked up a m18x r2 off Craigslist from some Tyrone that says he got from an evicted home. I paid only $100 for it because Tyrone didn't computer very well.
It has an "engineering special" processor in it and I want to switch it out for an OEM one. Why? It won't except some drivers (Intel HD graphics), comes up as "Genuine Intel processor" instead of a 3610qm which what cpuid reads it as, and it won't install some of Microsoft's drivers to run Vidya.
Should I be able to swap out the processor or did I get dindu'd out of $100.
It at least came with 2 ssd's...
It has a very nice display too, bad these laptops are so expensive.
Twist: OP is Tyrone

not op, i did it once. gpu is soldered but cpu can be swapped in some laptops

If its an FCPGA988 like Ark says, then a 3610QM is pretty much the top of the line and its not worth changing it.

Op here
It's an engineering special processor, which is basically a prototype. I don't want to change it out but this one has a lot of issues so it needs to go. I just don't know if I can.
