Hey goys. I saw a good thread a few days ago about microphones and recording equipment. A lot of people in the threads were bashing on Blue microphones as being the Apple of the microphone world. Average tier product with great advertising. My Blue snowball just crapped out so I'm looking for something to replace it with. I Mainly use it for VoIP and voice overs on game videos I record for my dumb friends. Any recommendations? Also general microphone/recording thread I suppose.

BM 800

>>58125095
I've heard the BM800 needs spooky energy. Are there any recommended low cost phantom power supplies to go along with it? Assuming the BM800/arm/phantom power cost around 50USD, are there any microphones in that price range that are better?
>>
I recently bought the SF-920, it's a $15 microphone, if you use it with an USB sound adapter it just works
>>
>>58125180
Energy is a spook, anon. That said, get a stage mic, hooked up to a mic - DAC. Scarlett solo is inexpensive and doubles as a headphone DAC w/ 6.5mm input jack for listening to the PC and has a switch for listening to realtime mic feedback. Has to be XLR or 6.5jack input, XLR recommended though.
>>
>>58125834
This is probably over the price that I want to spend on a microphone/equipment used in recorded videos and talking to people online. I was looking for microphones more in the 100 dollar price range. give or take a little bit.
>>
>>58124927
Go with a Rode or a Behringer USB mic
>>
>>58124927
I have a Blue snowball because it just werks. I'm self aware of it though. I think I'm gonna sell.
>>
>>58124927
I like the 2020, but almost all my hardware is audio-technica, so I was going for brand theme for visuals in a slight bias there.

It is nice though.
I use it for music (guitar and vocals) as well as voicechat.
I've gotten some compliments on the sound quality.
>>
I have a Blue Yeti and I “sort of” regret buying it. It's not worth the price, in that I don't think it provides enough of a benefit to justify the price compared to similar products.

That said, it's not exactly expensive enough to the point where I have any serious regrets. I do like the part where it also operates as a USB audio device, since I use it to listen to stuff while falling asleep
>>
>>58128508
That's interesting. What do you think are better alternatives in the price range of the Yeti?
>>
>>58125180
It does, if you're going to buy an interface don't use it with a turd mic like the 800
>>
What do you guys think about the ATR2500-USB versus the Yeti? It's slightly cheaper, but I've yet to see any voice recording comparisons between them. Anyone that have either one of these microphones can give their opinions?
>>
>>58124927
yeti blue and at2020 both pick up a ton of background noise. as do all condenser microphones. steer clear if you're using them near a pc. fans, keyboard, mouse clicks all come through.
>>
>>58128637
Audio Technica mics are highly regarded but USB mics pick up a lot of electrical noise, so it's best to cheap out if going that route.
>>
>>58128680

I also have a Snowball microphone and looking to upgrade it for something with better vocal quality. I don't have room on my desk or floor for an arm so I'd have to get something that sits on my desk. Preferably usb so I don't have to deal with phantom power. What are my choices?

this is pretty decent. around 170€
>>
>>58128452
why are you self conscious about a microphone?
>>
Honestly if you want better quality than a yeti or a 2020 you aren't going to get any thing that doesn't use phantom power.

If you're serious about microphones, audio, voice over or recording instruments a 2i2 is a great place to start and you need a mic that is decent too, otherwise you're just pissing in the wind.

Good microphones are expensive, so are the things they need. honestly if you're browsing /g/ and you want a mic that's decent to fuck around with a yeti and a 2020 will do what you need it to do. once you actually do audio shit for a job you upgrade.
>>
What does /g/ think of the NT1A?

Is it a good mic?

I got a blue yeti (black out) brand new for $63. Should I return or what?
>>
>>58131869
That's a really good deal. You should keep it if you need it. Resell it if not. Where did you get it?
>>
>>58131896
Amazon Prime Now (only for big cities). They were selling for $73 and I had a $10 promo code on top of that. Was delivered within 3 hours too.

I got it literally last weekend and I mostly use it for gaming. No complaints!
>>

Blue yeti blackout
At2020 if you have a pop filter and sound foam (it will hear your heartbeat; not really but seems fking like it)
>>

This 100%

focusrite scarlett interfaces are good, but overpriced imo. the hidden gem of audio interfaces is the behringer umc204hd. comparable preamps and exact same converters as the scarlett 2i4. check reviews to see for yourself.

I use an AT2020 usb, would pick up quite a bit with its stock stand on my desk. Once I got a shock mount and arm, it definitely cut down on vibration pick up. Just get it fairly close to your mouth and adjust mic volume accordingly for background noise

He means that he knows that it's a shit mic
>>
>>58128548
I don't know. I would rather try looking for something equivalent to the yeti at a cheaper price (e.g. $50).
>>
>>58135940
Sample A sounds better to me
>>
>>58137124
Perhaps to elaborate: It sounds a lot more “constrained”, like the mids don't come out as strong or something. It makes your voice seem flatter or more compressed or something. Hard to describe this stuff in words. If it's just the specturm, maybe you can equalize away the difference though; which would be interesting to try. But if it's more compressed, it would probably be difficult to shit.

Also, I noticed some annoying “squeaky” noise in the background when listening to sample B, but upon reinspection it seems like that's present in sample A as well. Sounds like some sort of DSP gone wrong. (Noise suppression?) But since it's in both samples, it might be your environment or recording process.
>>
>>58137204
>It sounds a lot more “constrained”,
It being sample B here

>difficult to shit
difficult to fix*

what the fuck brain
>>
>>58137204
>>58137212
That's not me making the recording. It's an anon in /csg/. I'm just reposting here.

To me, B sounded better, to be honest and I thought it was the Behringer. To my surprise it wasn't.

Do you think the difference justifies a 700% difference in price.
>>
>>58135940
It should be noted that that BM-800 is modded and is using an interface, not $15 chink spooky power
>>
>>58137377
>Do you think the difference justifies a 700% difference in price.
I'm not sure. It's definitely better to me, and it's definitely by a lot, but I don't know if it's $150 lot.

Maybe I'd pay like $70-$90 or something for it.
>>
>>58136960
I had one briefly, it seemed to be a decent mic.
What makes it "a shit mic"?
>>
>>58135940
That's actually pretty impressive. Where can I find a tutorial or guide for the bm800 mod?
>>
I use an Audio Technica 2020, and an ART USB Dual Pre preamp. I get really good sound quality, but the whole setup cost me around $200. If you're not too worried about audio quality, a USB microphone is probably alright.
>>
>>58124927
Get a fucking cheap dynamic mic you autist. Condenser mics are for studios. If anything, buy a nice preamp.
>>
>>58139111
How are you going to mouthfuck a dynamic mic while you're playing games
>>
>>58124927
stop listen to these poorfags and buy a good audio technica mic, i have a at 2035
and if you can't afford that, shame on you and everyone in this thread.

>>

>>
>>58139505
unless you can get a job with a healthy pay and a living situation which is very comfortable like a very cheap but good apartment, you will need to save up small amounts over time.
if your current job doesnt allow this, tray to change it, take risks if a must
