Im thinking of getting a 1080 this christmas. Is it worth buying

Well 1080ti is coming some day, but there isn't any release day or even a proper announcement for it yet. It'll probably be available for purchase in spring.

RX 490 is coming soon too but it'll compete against 1070 rather than 1080.

Well the 980 owners got royally fucked when the -ti dropped, so I assume it will be the same this time around also.

I'd wait a bi, it's pretty likely that in 3-5 months Vega and 1080ti specs should be coming out. 980 owners kinda got fucked when the 980ti happened, and it could happen again.

None of those would be available in that time most likely though, so if you're set to actually buy in that time you might as well get a 1080.
