Just purchased this monitor. It will be replacing my LG IPS 27in 1080p screen. Is the 1440p hype worth?

I paid $10 less for my 25" 1440p 60Hz IPS panels.

Two of them for $250 each.

Not OP but I have a 1440p IPS monitor
Blacks aren't so dark
What technology to get next?
>>
>>58108359
If you want good black levels then you need a new VA panel, OLED, or wait for the new panasonic IPS tech just announced earlier in December.

1440p master race reporting in. though mine is a 144hz gsync display.

upgraded from a 1080p 144hz monitor and the extra real estate is a dream. not a meme whatsoever. now if only 4k 144hz+ gsync on a $300 card was doable.

Aren't VA response times poor? IPS is as good as it gets until OLED. I'm not sure the Panasonic IPS tech will be picked up by manufacturers like Dell (They use LG panels most of the time). I'm willing to be proven wrong though.
>>
>>58108589
>I'm not sure the Panasonic IPS tech will be picked up by manufacturers
lol, it will 100% be picked up by everyone if it's as good as they're claiming it is.

1000 nit brightness with 1,000,000 static contrast ratio? That's fucking insane.
>>
>>58108589
>Aren't VA response times poor
older VA for sure, brand new 2016 VA however is getting pretty quick, not TN quick, but comparable to IPS response times.

FIND A FLAW:
>Want to buy 4K LED TV (pic related)
>It's not marketed as a "monitor", use it as one anyways for muh day trading
>Video card supports 4K

My eyes won't get sore, right?
>>
>>58109102
If you're going to do a 4k TV make sure it supports 60fps with 4:4:4

and do your research, because they tend to lie.

>>58108456
Who are you quoting?

Hi, mr. David Doney

kek
>>
>>58109102
that one has 4:4:4 with Nvidia GPUs, AMD users have reported issues, as of ~august anyway, who knows if AMD made any driver fixes.

>>58106550
are you seriously a criminal lawyer? Or are yu a bus driver?
>>
>>58109192
The 6300 all support 4:4:4 at 60Hz
>>
>>58109421
Shit, I have an AMD. I bought it about a year ago.

What kind of problems?
>>
>>58109496
apparently they just default to 4:2:2, at least with most of what i'm reading online with the solution being buy an AMD card or deal with shitty looking text and 4:2:2
>>

Meant buy an nvidia, but you get the idea.

Tv's usually have around 19-30ms response times, a decent monitor will have around 1-4ms

I hated using my 4k telly for games, thought something was wrong with the controller at first.
>>
>>58109642
>a decent monitor will have around 1-4ms
Most TVs are IPS panels or VA panels, so you can't really compare that to a TN monitor panel.

IPS monitors and VA monitors have response times around 6-12ms

TVs are slightly more usually, some can be up past 50ms which gets to be unusable for FPS gaming.

However desktop use, strategy games, and similar are fine on such TVs.

That one probably has ~20-30ms input lag which is not bad but not great.
>>
>>58109678
jesus, I can't imagine trying to play rocket league with a 50ms response time. How do people play it on console?
>>
>>58109678
Ah. Just day trading, not gaming, so it'd probably be okay.
>>
>>58109777
yeah for desktop use, day trading, programming, video editing, etc. You wont give a fuck.

Bad time to buy a LCD friend

OLED screen will be affordable next year
>>
>>58109889
according to whom?

I've read several reports on the next 5-10 years of OLED and it's not looking to be consumer friendly until ~2019
>>
>>58109496
Actually, I have a bigger problem than this:

>HDMI Ready : 1.4a

So no 60 fps at 4k. I'd need a better card with HDMI 2.0.
>>
>>58110067
unless it has displayport.
>>
>>58110080
the TV doesnt
>>
>>58109902
reports from who? LCD industry insiders that don't want you waiting to buy an LCD?

Apple is switching to OLED across it's entire line next year. Yields on 24+ inch screen have improved massively in the past 12 months.
>>
>>58110113
http://www.idtechex.com/research/reports/oled-lighting-opportunities-2016-2026-forecasts-technologies-players-000472.asp

>IDTechEx assess the market potential for OLED lighting across all major lighting sectors. We forecast that the market will grow to 2.2 billion USD in 2026 (optimistic scenario). The market growth will however be very slow until 2019/2020 where the overall sales at panel level will remain below 200 million USD globally.

>>
>>58106550
You just downgraded. Well played!

Seen a 25" 1440p and honest to god i prefer my 27" 1080p. And i could have afforded that one as well when i made the purchase. Both Dell's.
>>
>>58110289
>i prefer my 27" 1080p
lol thats trash.

27" 1080p is 81 PPI, the pixels are large enough to see from 3 blocks away.
>>
>>58110289
>27" 1080p
Most people are used to 1080p at 22-24"
That's 90-100 PPI
1440p at 25" is 117 PPI
at 27" it's 108 PPI

It's generally agreed over 120 PPI for the average users viewing distance is too sharp, and under ~85 PPI is generally too little density and looks shit (especially for anyone used to using over 100 PPI)
>>
>>58110390
Bet you're one of those people that see a difference between full hd and 1440p even on a phone.

The only thing that can be seen from 3 blocks away is your autism. Keep trying to justify your purchase faggot.

The difference in screen real estate alone is worth it.

Both of these panels are identical, one is at 1080p, the other is at 1440p. Both have open the same episode of the same TV show, at the same resolution, in MPV.

I know what resolution i'd rather be using.

Had to email XFX to confirm what version of DisplayPort I have on my XFX Radeon R7 250X. They only bothered to publish the HDMI version (1.4a).

Waiting for an answer. Though I suspect it is 1.2 since the spec has been around since 2009 and my card was made in 2015.
>>
>>58106550
You should have went for a Korean IPS 1440p monitor.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/QNIX-QX2710-LED-Evolution-ll-Matte-Off-grade-27-2560x1440-PLS-Panel-PC-Monitor-/111520558751?hash=item19f724ae9f:g:ZSoAAMXQDfdRtY7e

The screen is better than that ASUS panel in every regard, including being overclockable to at least 100hz.

>>58111756
But it's a dongle, Anon.
Only macfags use dongles.

I've been using one since 2014, I'd say go for it. You can overclock it to anywhere between 75-96hz

can i piggyback this thread and ask if this monitor is worth buying?
