Why aren't you dual booting Windows + GNU/Linux?

Let's face it. Windows is a nice gaming platform/console/toy, but for real computing, you need a real operating system.

>>

>>
I used to dualboot - but no more.
Because I enjoy challenging myself to use windows as little as possible.

It has become a hobby for me to support free software - I am willing to compromise on many conveniences to use free software.
>>
>>58106382
Why the hell would I dual boot Windows?
I don't need that shit.
>>
I dual boot hackintosh and windows.

I use parallels with my installation as well. You could say it's kinda silly, but if I need to do something quick on windows, I don't have to restart.
>>

It still feels wasted, because I haven't booted into windows for over a month now. I guess I'll go full on ganoo slush linucks and use the GPU passthrough for gaymen
>>
>>58106382
Because I pretty much only use windows... Linux is superior of course, I have used it a lot, but work demands that I use windows and I can't be bothered to reboot my computer. I have a computer with linux, but i never really use it.
>>
There is no reason to use Linux on anything other than a server.

I know, that's why I don't use Linux since the only use case for it is ricing your desktop and watching anime

I am fagot.
720 Blaze it fagot!

Windows is a useless OS (spy-ware/botnet if win10) you literally only need to interact with it if you need photoshop to start.

PS: Did you think about putting Windows into a virtual machine?
>>
>>58106468
Its not that Loonix got better, windows degenerated to this level of shit that in win10 its literally useless and a toy app.

A toy app that will turn off our computer when it feels like it needs to update.
Its the most retarded app imaginable.
Try rendering something overnight on win10 and see how you can lose all of it because win10 needed to update and restart.

Who seriously wants to put anything on a OS lie this?
For what work?

Maybe you enjoy if the SO turns of your computer while you are playing a game however for anything involving productivity???

Like why?
The same is true for web browsing.
I exclusively web brows on Loonix and I would rage quit if the OS decided to turn everything off because it needs to update (Oh yea I rage quit winblows because of this).

I'm not a retard, I can update on my own.

Its like a huge part of the INTERNET.

Also web browsing and 100% of content on the web.
Music.
All video (not just anime) like you can watch live action or if you hate anime PG13 western cartoons made for children (attack on titan and death note are not cartoons made for children senpai).

>Let's face it. Windows is a nice gaming platform/console/toy, but for real computing, you need a real operating system.

Sorry bro, AMD didn't release pro opencl drivers for my r9 270x for Linux, so if I want to run hashcat (real computing!!!!11) I have to use Windows.
>>
>>58106382
That's exactly what I'm doing.
>>
>>58106504
What OS (distro)
What hardware?

I did have this problem with mint 17 and a GTX900 (to new) however the next mint18 release did support it.

Fun fact, win7 dose not detect the build in network in my motherboard whit mint17 did. The only difference is that everyone bundles drivers for windows it practically supports nothing out of the box.

If you have a build in graphics card in your motherboard its recommended you use it instead of the newest thing you bought from the store to fuel your gaymen obsession.

If you need to switch the OS

Linux is only useful for serving up web pages on the cheap, or selling web hosting on the cheap.

Shit, even filesharing uses the gimped out SAMBA which is inferior to plain old windows server with active directory.

What would you expect from a 40 year old design where the only innovation is copying other systems. (cups+samba, samba, open directory, kerberos, etc).

Linux isn't even useful as a platform for business communications--there is nothing on it like outlook server--and this is a dead basic requirement for the enterprise.

There is no unified authentication for remote users either. You're stuck with a mishmash or kerberos, opendirectory, or maybe even radius thrown in the mix. Totally unacceptable.

Most UNIX innovation was done on Solaris, and their best tools aren't even available on Linux --(dtrace and zfs)--and now that Linux has eaten solaris' lunch, expect no future unix innovation.

Every other use case is better served by a desktop OS.

You linux ppl are fucking delusional!

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

>SATA connectors aren't meant to be unplugged and plugged in over and over again

Not really.
Your machine and the Windows guest beneath it benefits from Linux's code immortality, snapshots, and free featureset.
At a time when Microsoft is so keen to throw away Windows support and offer free upgrayeeds it's nice to be able to run a machine on any hardware that needs no reconfiguration or reinstallation. Ever.

Depends on your angle.
For pure functionality and fluidity: A VM is king.
For lightweight and sensible: Pure Linux.

+1 up vote, you made my day sir.
I laughter at this hard.

The windows fanboys are getting more desperate and pathetic after win10 especially what a lot of people jumped ship after win10 came out.

Truly MS will create the year of the linux desktop if they keep on committing harakiri on this level.
Win11 will need to be a brain chip implant that will send all your thoughts to the NSA and delete/install memories to the brain to "improve the user experience"

>OS authors

Did you make the box art or did invent the name?

This is 4chan we get LARP threads all the time.
This is the internet no one is going to believe you!

Hello I'm a Nigerian royalty named Bill Gates, sir and I have +200 years of OS development experience I have single handedly written all the code in all the versions of Linux, ReactOs, Windows, DOS, BSD, GNU and TempleOS.

So why don't you post some points and explain instead of relaying on your dubious authority.

Remote desktop, robably using virtualization. Look at the name of the window, it's a local IP address.
>>
>>58108657
My point was kids talk shit, and I posted it.
>>
>>58106925
I believe it's seamless mode or something in VirtualBox.
>>
I run Windows on a virtual Machines using KVM to do hardware passthrough so the loss on performance isn't noticeable. It works perfectly.

Ganes on Linux run fine as well, i only use it for the games i cant play on linux.
>>
>>58108105
Importante using KVM but i'm having trouble with the USB so i just passthrough the USB controller, but this makes my Linux useless until i shut dicen the VM. What solution do you recomend for mouse/keyboard switching?
>>
>not using VM & GPU Passthrough

>tfw Qemu crashes and your GPU is DMAing into random IO addresses bringing down the system

It's just not that solid yet. Also, I'm having a hard time making my multimonitor setup work properly.

is grub still the best bootloader?

Hi ice7755 next time you try to black yourself out use MS paint.

Don't use your faggy artsy brushes with the fade effect. They don't erase everything correctly.

If you are to retarded to fill with full solid color use MS paint of windows XP and select the area and press DELETE on the keyboard.

Antergos master race.

Then why are a lot of scientific projects using Windows?
>>
>>58106382
music production. LMMS sucks. The second something nearly as capable as Ableton is on linux i'd attempt switching. No Wine won't work. That breaks VST's. sound devices, and midi/audio connections.

I don't need Windows. The few games I do play have native Linux versions.

>>58106382
Windows 10 + ubuntu bash.
i need nothing else

I dual boot windows and osx though.

>>
Yesterday I did actually, and fucked up my Windows installation. Had to get a Windows USB and do some repairs.
I think I am giving up on Linux, unless if I can get another drive or something that I could use.

i have zero need for linux and the headaches that come with it

I'm a poorfag who doesn't have the required hardware. Otherwise I would do it.
At the moment I'm trying to figure out if you can both dualboot and VM into the same Windows partition, preferably seamlessly.
>>
>>58106382
why aren't you dual tripping DPH + DXM?

Let's face it. DPH is a nice translucent spider/vasoconstrictor/masturbation drug, but for getting real woke, you need a real drug combination.
>>
>>58106382
because I use qemu with pci-passthrough when I want to play witcher 3, otherwise I would just use loonix

Don't have one, and can't justify the cost. If Somehow I could manage to fit another SSD in my PC then I would totally install it again.

1) Install GNU/Linux
2) Uninstall M$/NSA Windows

When you are ready to quit playing games.
