Is this dead? Why does nobody use it anymore? Is regex the only reason it should be used?

Well one of the reasons why it was more used a few years ago than other script la guages was because:
It was more likely to be available in the system.
CPAN have a lot of packages
Helpful community and easy to find help if you know where to look
In modern times though other languages have caught up on packages variety and availability as well as being ubiquitous in most production systems so there's no real reason to use perl which tends to become a clusterfuck when written by incompetent people when you can use python which has training wheels to keep code saner compared to that of perl.

I knew a bit of Perl, is it not worth digging more into it at this moment? I don't really need to use it anymore
>>58101940
I would advise against using perl to write new programs however being able to read perl can come in handy for fixing/porting perl scripts. Instead of investing time in writing perl, why not port some CPAN packages to your favourite lang?? CPAN has everything from SMILES parsers to web crawlers and everything in between.
PÆRL
IS
SHET
It's ugly and unmaintainable.
Python > Perl.
Perl = Old and busted
Python = The new hotness.
I used Perl years ago during an internship. I still have and refer to the 'recipe' book I bought back then. I don't do anything in perl anymore, but that book has some really nice general info in it.
I'm not a programmer. But any scripting I need to do I use bash or python. I don't have a good reason for using python over perl.
It isn't.
Perl 6 is N O W

Why people are talking about Perl, if you posted about O'Caml?
