install gentoo

got a t420 for $140 on ebay. looked almost brand new. still does.

X220T and T420 are both pretty comfy at that price range. Honestly would go with the X220T unless you need a discrete GPU, though. Not only does the T420 have the worst TN panel I've seen in my entire life, but the X220T is an IPS panel, so it'll look good even without comparing it to a T420.

I personally own both machines and prefer the X220T. Might also be worth checking for the Dell, Toshiba, or HP equivalent of ThinkPads, as they are sometimes cheaper. Mostly because ThinkPads got so popular on /g/ and other similar places.
