IPS 60hz or TN 144hz?

Assuming they're both the same resolution, which would you pick?
>>
Do you ever sit back to watch a movie or clips on the screen?
Do you ever watch the screen with another person?
Is the screen at an angle?

If the answer to any of those 3 is yes don't get the TN, you'll regret it.
If it's always you straight in front of the monitor, tn is fine.
>>
Ez IPS, colors > (>60fps)

Try this at 1:1 scaling on a TN panel
>>
>>58098695
60hz because I'm not mentally retarded.

and in higher resolution

It's very important to use 100% scaling

I have both
>>
it's a hard choice.
I have the TN Asus 278q and although 144hz is fucking amazing, the colors are so unbelievably horrible.

I'd maybe even suggest getting a 1080p 144hz ips.
>>
>>58098695
we already have 144hz ips gsync displays
>>
>>58098819
Try this image fullscreen, unscaled:

tn on the left? it looks like shit in the first shot.

Stupid expensive though. Not feasible.

IPS for your television and consoles. TN 144hz for the computer. I run a yellow filter on my pc monitor to reduce eye strain so the colors are already fucked.
>>
>>58098695
Both.
Just got in an ASUS PA248Q today, and I already have a VG24QE
>>
>>58098743
>>58098755
What is this suppose to do?
>>
>>58098743
Wtf you broke my monitor.
>>
>>58099449
If you look at it from an angle and it changes colours completely, you have a shit TN panel
>>
>>58098843
Yeah window reflection was a bit notiable. That being said it has better colors than the IPS one.

Best TN panel I ever used
>>
>>58098743
>>58098755
sooo, is it bad that I almost cant see shit @fullscreen?

can only read it if I get pretty close to my monitor...
>>
This may be a place to ask:

I came into a little unexpected money and I was thinking of using it to upgrade my monitor. Would it be better for me to get something roughly the same size as what I have, but a bit nicer so I can have two screens, or should I just go whole-hog and spend every dime on a much nicer monitor and pick up a second one of those next year?
>>
>>58098695
TN 144hz because it's going to have a 1ms response time.
>>
>>58098695
You'll get used to either monitor's colors because the differences between them are practically indistinguishable. More than double FPS capacity is way more distinguishable (if you're using it for a PC mainly) so I'd go for that if you can get those high frame rates. Fancy colors are overrated.
>>
>>58098724
are you stupid, IPS monitors have superior colors, TN colors and especially the blacks are horrible shit.
>>
>>58100031
>muh 1ms response time
its actually around 6ms, it's just bs marketing
>>
>>58098695
Get one of each.
>>
>>58098695
The one that has the best rating for the price.
>>
IPS
>>
ips 60 hz for almost everyone. if you play a lot of fast paced video games then get the tn 144.
>>
144
>>
>>58098743
Could post a 1366x768 version?
>>
>>58098695
My pc is made for 1080/60, so ips

your results may vary
>>
It depends on what you do. 144hz & 1ms is a nice perk for games where you get above 60 frames. I don't know why people meme about the difference between 60hz to 144hz. It's very noticeable. Maybe the point they want to make is that you'll probably suck just as bad at your fantasy competitive videogames on 60hz as you do on 144hz. For the average Joe it's more of a feel thing. Kinda like with mechanical keyboards.

IPS is hands down many many leagues above TN in how it looks. You could show me a 4k TN panel with all the bells and whistles and I'd still probably pick the IPS panel for looks. I might be a little biased here because my old 144hz TN is washed out as fuck and no ICC profile or crimson or OSD tweak can help it. I thought there was something wrong with my IPS when I bought it. You really don't have a clue what proper color representation looks like until you get an IPS. If you do any sort of work requiring color accuracy you'd be absolutely fucking retarded not to get one of these. IPS 120hz+ monitors do exist btw.

Recently I got my hands on the new VA Samsung Quantum Dot 24" display on sale for $260. 144hz, 1ms (meme samsung buzzword made up reponse time), 70-144hz freesync range (lmao). 1080p. The display has a few nuances due to the VA panel reponse time being sort of a scam, but overall it's the nicest display I've had the pleasure of using. VA is fan-fucking-tastic for watching movies and playing darker atmospheric games. Quantum dot probably helps a little here too. If you can't have both this is a nice comprimise. No 4k or 1440p is a turnoff for some.
>>
>>58098819
Try adjusting your settings, my PG278Q with 10-but color literally looks just as good as my 8-bit color IPS after calibration (still some off-color at top and bottom due to viewing angles, but no side to side changes from what I see)
144hz is fucking amazing, instantly and constantly noticable
Viewing angle problems are easily forgotten
My TN was $300 less than the equivalent IPS version
Go for TN, put the right priorities first
>>
>>58098695
I will never go back to tn. The colors and angles on ipa are just so much better.

Also a 4k ips. Even at only 60hz is amazing. That pixEl density is great for gaming or programing, text is crisp.
>>
>muh viewing angles
Why does this always come up for PC display talk? Absolutely not relevant.

TN if you play games and have hardware that can drive them to 144. Otherwise IPS.
>>
IPS of course.
>>
>>58101833
Well with advancements in color tech and screen material, viewing angles are the only problem left with TN so obviously IPS meme-parrots will attack that as hard as they can saying its a huge deal when it's forgotten in 5 mins of gameplay, or with using any UI that isn't one single color fullscreened
>>
21:9 IPS > 16:9/144hz TN

There is no point to go for 144 hz if most games can't even reach over 60 fps because of shitty optimization or a fucked physics engine (like bethesda games).
>>
>>58101881
>have 4 Bethesda games
>2 get 144hz constantly maxed, 2 get 90fps constantly maxed
>Out of all my games, only Microsoft exclusives still hover near 60fps when fully maxed

I have a 144hz IPS monitor at 1440p. Get fucked
>>
TN is junk, but who else thinks pva actually looks nicer than ips?
>>
So, what would be the best 1440p 60hz IPS I can buy in the 300 range?
>>
>>58098758
Because mouse response rates doesn't exist
>>
>>58100123
This,

Colors are something you get use to, I have a 7 year old tn, this shit i know has shifted color horribly since I first got it, but I don't notice it on a day to day level

However, I went to a store and saw an oled tv... I can't forget that contrast.

I used a 120hz monitor for about an hour, took me almost a month to get use to 60hz again, just normal desktop use, what i normally do, is so much better on 120hz, gaming I would argue free/g sync are more important as you get a frame when your gpu is ready, so you never feel an input delay. on a good monitor, the 144hz i used, we downlocked the gpu so battlefield 4 ran at 20~ fps and this was below the monitors reported freesync level, but the game still felt smoother than many 60fps games, didn't look smoother, but sure as fuck felt it.

80-120 dpi at 1080p minimum > Contrast over 1:1000 > 120/144hz = free/g sync >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ips outside of work related needs to be 100% color accurate

And remember, find real monitor reviewers, not just people who regurgitate the fucking number on a box because EVERY NUMBER ON A BOX IS A FUCKING LIE, EVEN HOW MANY INCHES THE SCREEN IS.

fun when companies included the bezel in the monitors screen size.
>>
IPS
>>
>>58100264
What are you even talking about?
Shitty washed out blacks are more of an IPS problem than a TN one.
As for colors in general I don't see a difference between TN and IPS panel, I think it's more of an individual issue than a TN vs IPS issue.
>>
>>58099328
this desu flux masterrace
>>
>>58098695
IPS 10/10
>>58098724
>If it's always you straight in front of the monitor, tn is fine.
except that TN's have god awful vertical viewing angles (horizontal is usually actually pretty good)
and yes it does make a HUGE difference for the top and bottom 15% of your screen.

Here's a tiled version
Just set it as a tiled wallpaper
>>
>>58099449
>What is this suppose to do?
On a TN, the colors are off even if you don't move your head at all
>>
If you play fast paced video games you have to get the TN for the response time.
>>
>>58098695
after using a 14Hz monitor for a few hours going back to 60Hz was very strange. I would rather a 1080p144 TN over a 1440p60 IPS but obviously people differ.

At 144Hz things just feel so fucking silky smooth though
>>
>>58098695
>Assuming they're both the same resolution, which would you pick?
Neither. I want 120 Hz refresh rate and I don't want TN.
