Is there a way to make these Firefox and Chrome start menu icons consistent with the others without any third-party software?
Install gentoo

Windows 7 seems to work well.

No but there's an open Source solution on github called OblyTile. It was meant for the use with Win8 but should still be working on 10

Unless it's been updated, it won't, the new start menu works differently
you can still search oblytile windows 10 to find TileCreator, which is a compromise

Yeah. Works fine with Windows 7, as well as pretty much every kind of Linux.

Find the fucking image and replace it with what you want.

Edit *.VisualElementsManifest in the application directory.
Then you need to change the modified date so the start menu updates.(ls "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox.lnk").lastwritetime = get-date
