Putting together a new build for 1080p gaymen and I'm still unsure on the GPU
>Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ 8GB
>Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB
Both are within my budget of £250. What's the better option as of now?
supposedly the 480 is better for the long run, but the 1060 beats it right now

I'd say the 1060.
AMD has been proven to gimp older cards multiple times now to force you to upgrade.
Latest drivers disable Async compute from older GCN cards, and the HD6970 can't even compete with a HD7790 anymore.

Are drivers still better with nvidia as it's always been? I've been out of the loop with this generation of cards
>>58087047
It depends. Do you want a worthless piece of shit or do you want the 1060?
>>58087073
i read one of those review sites a week or so ago went back and retested the cards and found the 480 was now on par with the 1060 in dx11 and widened the gap in dx12.
>>58087047
get a 1070
>>58087127
I've been seeing this too. Has there been any changes in power consumption?
>>58087142
Yeah. It consumes more power when it performs better.
>>58087131
Can't justify the price considering I'm going to be playing on a single 1080p display. I don't need that extra horsepower
>>58087165
My 670 is still running most shit on ultra or high these days. A 1070 will age just as well, if not better thanks to the abundance of vram.

TL;DR: 1060 is 2% better on DX11 titles and 6% worse on DX12 games.
>>58087220
>uses 25% less power (less heat too)
>only 6% behind worst case scenario
>2% ahead
Sweet.
>>58087047
Want better performance right now or up to a year from now? 1060.
Want better performance over a year from now? 480.

480 nitro+ 4gb t b h
